Anyone know anybody who makes orthotics in or around kilkenny, I am looking for a pair as I need them to support my arches etc, The ones I want are made from a mould of your feet (not the ones you can get in elverys etc) Thanks in advance folks :-).

Martin Phelan (Marble City Physio) specialises in them. I've been seeing him for about 6 months while recovering from a broken leg and find him excellent. You'll find his contact details here:

Yea I went to Martin Phelan as well. My mum and brother have also gone to him for them.

They cost a bit but they are good quality. He sends the moulds over to England so it'll take at least 2/3 weeks to get them back.

There are different ones. The cheapest are around €20/30 I think. No point in getting them though. They are off the shelf and wouldn't fit your foot.

Then there are two dearer ones. The cheaper is around €250 I think. I didn't bother with them though because they wouldn't last too long. They were made from a flexible kind of material and they didn't seem to be too sturdy.

I went for the dearer set. They were €330. It's expensive I know but if I mind them I hope to have them for a long time. My mum has hers 7 years at this stage. That's about €45 a year. Not too bad in the long run.

They are totally rigid and fit perfectly to your feet. I've had them about a month now and I'm wearing them the whole time now. I don't notice myself wearing them at all and it feels pretty weird without them on. They also raise me up almost an inch so that's another plus. I'm clearing 6 foot comfortably now :D.

Theresa McGinn on Maudlin St. is the physio we use. Soft orthotics cost about 20-70 euro and hard ones I think are around €220.

I got orthotics from the guy round behind hotel kilkenny about a year ago.

They rang to get me to collect them and I went in at the agreed time, the physio was leaving so he just dismissed me and told the girl who answers to the phone (!) to show me what to do with them, and even she didn't bother (not that she was qualified to do so anyway), she just handed them them to me and said 'read the instructions'.

    Extremely unprofessional.

I gave the guy the guts of 400 quid and he didn't even bother his hole to see if the orthotics fitted me right or if they were correcting my feet they way they were supposed to. AND after a few months they started falling apart. And no this is not just me being pernickitty, i discussed this with an (impartial) physio subsequently who confirmed that this is appaling customer service.

I've been in maudlin street for other physio stuff and they are competent. Regrettably, I didn't try them for the orthotics as I was told this other guy was the best.

I'll probably look into the whole foot and gait analysis thing that foot solutions advertise next time.

I would be very interested in what foot solutions could offer. They are not in Kilkenny though.

My feet are pretty bad and I get very bad foot pain if I wear shoes without arch support..

He fixes shoes - cobbler. For orthotics you need to see a physio.
