Switching from Eircom DSL to Vodafone DSL and confused

Hi folks, perhaps someone who's done the switch might enlighten me.

Eircom require 30 days written notice that you're ending with them so that's done. Called eircom to confirm the end date and they confirmed it would end early this week so I assumed phone and internet would then no longer work.
However phone and internet are still working.

Anyhow signed up with Vodafone after the eircom cut-off date online and get a (presumably standard) email that says:
    Vodafone wrote:
Firstly your home phone line will be transferred to Vodafone. This can take an estimated 10 working days to complete.
Your broadband connection will then be activated. This can take an estimated 21 days to complete.
Once your home phone and broadband connection are active with Vodafone you will then receive a Welcome Letter informing you that your line is active and that your Wireless Modem (if ordered) is being dispatched.
Your modem can take up to 16 days to deliver. Once you receive your Wireless Modem you then need to install the modem using the User Guide. Follow the simple instructions and you will be surfing the net in no time.
So the Vodafone landline should be working within 10 working days but the Internet could potentially take over a month!

My main query is though - how come the phone and internet are still working if the eircom account has been cancelled?

Generally the switchover takes place very quickly, they are covering their bases by quoting 10 days for phone & 30 days for broadband. This allows for any delays in getting your service ported from your other provider (Eircom in this case)

Thanks for that zerks. Would you know who's providing the current phone and broadband? Is it safe to use the currently working connection (presumably it's still eircom) without attracting a large bill?
