Hi all, got signed up for vhi health insurance through my work a couple of weeks ago on a company plus plan. This week i hurt my knee playin 5 aside and my phsio says i need to get an mri as he suspects I have damaged my cruciate ligament!! :-( My question is, is there a coolin off period before i can try and get some treatment under my vhi policy and if so how long do I have to wait?
And also do i have to get referred by my gp for the mri??

    Thanks for your help

There's a few company plan plus levels (1, 1.1 and 3) but I think it's covered in approved centres from day one. Might be worth giving them a call to confirm you're using an approved centre and that you're covered and yes you would have to be referred

Actually based on the above T&C's you may have a 26week waiting period. Based off calling them.

The waiting period applies to pre-existing conditions, I'm fairly certain that a sporting inury is not subject to any wait.

Depending on where you do the MRI, the VHI may pay based on whether you were referred by a GP or consultant but a GP letter will be the absolute minimum.

There shouldn't be a waiting period for an MRI scan unless you are old. Make sure that the particular centre is an approved one or not only will you have to pay upfront but you won't get any money back. VHI have a lower number of approved MRI centres.
