What a crock of shít. There is absolutely no basis for that journalist to be making those claims, other than a scout was at the game, admittedly looking at another player.

    I especially like this quote;
"perhaps the Catalan club want a value addition to add to their squad."

The vertoghen deal is still on... According to sky sports website. (cant post link from my phone).

Plenty of direct quotes from the players agent, something along the lines of 'Jan wants to sign for the club, not the manager so the deal is still on' (or words to that effect).

I really hope it still happens.
Jan Vertonghen's agent has insisted the defender is still on track to join Tottenham despite Harry Redknapp's departure as manager.

Spurs began talks with Ajax over the transfer of Vertonghen some weeks ago, but the two sides are still reported to be some way apart on their valuation of the 25-year-old defender.

And doubts were raised about whether the deal would be finalised when Redknapp parted company with the club on Thursday.

However, Vertonghen has previously made it clear that he wants to move to White Hart Lane despite interest from other Premier League clubs, and his representative Mustapha Nakhli remains hopeful.

    Good atmosphere

"Nothing has changed at all. He is coming to Tottenham for the club and not for the manager," Nakhli said.

"Managers come and go. Of course Jan is sorry that Harry Redknapp is no longer there but he is going for the club.

"We have a good relationship with Daniel Levy. He wants the deal to happen and there is a good atmosphere (between us).

"I don't know when it will happen but the deal is close, very close."

"One completed deal we could see today is Jan Vertonghan's long-awaited move to Tottenham. He's expected to be back in London for a medical ahead of his £7m move."

    From football365.

7m is a lot less than had been quoted! Eager to see this one go through!

7m would be a steal! Great work by Levy if true.

Yea it would be great. Still really hope we get him.

Hopefully we will actually close the deal sooner rather than later.

On him and our new manager so we can get down to business.

Jan Vorthengan deal is supposed to be finally sorted dutch outlets all reporting deal done with Ajax just personal terms to be discussed now.

Marca reporting Modric to Real to be done this week with us looking for Sahin as a make weight as part of any deal.

Finally not really news but Gylffi Sigurdson had his odds on joining spurs slashed over the last 24 hours to 1/3. Not sure what to make of that one.

I'll be delighted if that Vertonghen deal is finally done. I think Modric going to a club outside the premiership for a good chunk of money is the best outcome for the whole Modric saga and it's good business.

Hopefully it will send a message to the top 4 teams that Spurs are no longer going to sell our best players to our rivals.

If we got Sahin I'd be delighted with that deal, I wonder who else would be thrown in though, if the above is true we'd be getting a very good deal.

Sahin is excellent. Has had a torrid time with injuries since he went to Madrid.
Real Mardid got him for an absolute bargain.

    snippet from wiki below..

Şahin returned to Dortmund, where he played an important role in the 2009–10 season, starting 33 out of 34 matches. He ended the season with four goals and eight assists.[6] Şahin won the Bundesliga title with Dortmund in the 2010–11 season.[7] After a strong season, in which he scored seven and made eight assists, Şahin was voted best player of the season in the Bundesliga for 2011.[8]

Football 365 has it that its Sahin and Carvalho plus 20 odd million. How would people feel about this?

Not sure myself. Id still love to see the little man stay on with us

  • Registered Users Posts: 226 ✭✭oregano

Let him off, we will survive (and at least he's not gone to Chelsea )

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,162 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I'd hoped Modric would stay, but not surprising if he does want out. There's no way in hell we should let him go to a Premiership club though, so if Madrid come in with a decent bid we should accept it. Especially if Sahin in part of the deal.

Excellent player, won POTY in 10/11 when Dortmund won their first title. Some rumours that Fergie is in for him provided the Modric deal fails, he had a poor last season, it seems as if Mou doesn't have much time for him for whatever reason.
