Excellent player, won POTY in 10/11 when Dortmund won their first title. Some rumours that Fergie is in for him provided the Modric deal fails, he had a poor last season, it seems as if Mou doesn't have much time for him for whatever reason.

Did Jose not sign him though ?

He did, but he's been left out of quite a few matchday squads even when fit, and he got very little playing time against halfway decent opposition. From what I remember the only reasonably competitive game he started was against APOEL, which, despite being the CL QF, was a cakewalk for Madrid. Either he isn't the player José thought he was, or he did something to piss him off and it was kept very quiet. Either way he's not getting a lot of playing time, and if Modric goes there he'll be getting even less.

In fairness, he has some decent competition in Khedira, Alonzo Ozil etc..

This Vertonghen deal has become a joke! It's got signing for somebody else written all over it!

Sigurdsson to us according to Bild for €10m, if that's true it's a pretty good piece of business.

He's a great player from what I saw from the few months he was in the EPL but where will/could he play for us if we do end up with him??

Could he playing in a two man midfield with Sandro/Parker?

Will he playing the AMF role? What will happen with VDV if so?

    Hmmmmmm

I have the exact same reservations over Sigurdson too. Good player, but where does he fit in to a Tottenham team. My other reservation is, who signed him? AVB?

I think VDV will head back to Germany, lots of rumours about Schalke and Hamburg in the last few weeks.

    Sigurdsson > VDV

    For the team at least.

I hear Bale has signed a new contract. He must know who the new manager is so.

That's good news. Here's some of the not-so-good variety.

    Re Vertonghen:
Apparently the transfer is being held up by a clause in the Belgian's contract that entitles him to 15% of the fee.

'This is a shame. I thought that it would be sorted out much sooner,' the defender told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.

'As it looks now, I'll be at Ajax on July 2. I'm hoping for a solution, but I'm not expecting a solution.

'I have one advantage: Ajax have got a good coach who knows me. I play in a good, stable squad. Let's become champions with Ajax for the third time in a row.'

modric - let him rot in the stands

Modric said: "I’m going to play in the Champions League, I want to win that competition. I’m not going to be able to achieve my dream here."

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

That's not good from Vert and I kind of expected that from Modric. Let him off to Madrid but not to any other PL club.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭golfball37

Vertonghen has one year left on his Ajax deal, he is only saying that to force Ajax's hand. he has already said he will sign next summer even if he has to spend one more year at Ajax.

I can't see them passing up a transfer fee and paying his wages for another year only for him to leave for free after.

Interest from PSG is vital if we are to get a decent wedge out of Real. I'd be happy with £25m and Sahin. Though if we are getting Sigurdssen too.... we're going to have a fairly packed midfield next year.

We have Jenas and Hudd to comeback. On top of Livermore, Parker, Pienaar and Sandro.

Maybe Levy is preparing for life in the Europa Cup. We going to need a sizeable squad if the Europa Cup is not to effect our Premier League chances.

Still not being linked with any strikers. Only Defoe left from last season, maybe Harry Kane will step up this season

Signing for a team without a manager would be pretty stupid to be honest. Anyone who is linked should really wait and see who we get in before making a decision. I'd be pretty annoyed if i came to Spurs now and we signed a nobody manager.

Levy needs to get the manager sorted before any possible new players.

This Gylfi Sigurdsson Transfer is very interesting I have to say, a lot of Liverpool fans are saying he's a greedy c u next Tuesday and that we are offering him 70K a week to come to us, I cannot see in a million years Levy paying a 22 year old 70K when he is relatively unproven.

I really wonder how little are Liverpool prepared to offer must be around the 25/30k mark and we are willing to go to 40-50K?

I certainly think that reports of us offering double the wages are either Ludicrous(sp?) or else Liverpool are offering truely **** wages.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,744 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

I hope we are'nt offering anywhere new 70k considering what Modric is been paid.

I still dont see why we are buying him unless Modric and/or VDV are been let go.

If we are buying a midfielder I'd prefer to see us go for an out-and-out right winger so we have cover for lennon next term unlike last year...

Must agree, was it a coincidence we grew so easy to defend against once Lennon was out? I think hodgson could have done with him at the euros too.

If AVB comes in July 1, as per the latest daily mail exclusive, he won't have long to look at the squad and determine weaknesses, but that flank can be threadbare at times

Lads, right wing is the least of our worries, we need 2 good strikers before anything imo.

There's no way Levy would be signing players if he wasn't sure the new manager wanted them. Sure he wouldn't even let Harry sign players in the last transfer window... because he wasn't sure the new manager would want them.

I'd say the signing of Gylfi was discussed with AVB. And the fact that AVB will be the next manager was discussed with Gylfi.

I would also guess, AVB is aware of the Modric situation and may have asked for Sahin in return.

Two good strikers and cover on both flanks. Who would come in for Bale if he got injured, I'd like to see Townsend given his chance.

Potential signings with the above in mind - Huntelaar and Ricardo Quaresma.... (big gamble) maybe AVB could get him playing to his potential...?!

Damio looks like staying put in Brazil with the Quotes hes coming out with Mandzukic looked very good alight was thinking that myself Bayern offered 10M for him great business I think, could easily be the next Lewandanski type breakout player in the Bundesliga next year.

Loïc Rémy maybe? I know there was talk of him as a possibility recently.
