    Gaston Ramirez ???

Bid of 12.6m rejected. Just checked him out on you tube- looks like a decent attacking midfielder. 8 goals in 32 games in Italy from midfield is an impressive return. We have one of those in VDV and Siggy looks like he could play in an attacking midfield role alos.
But he is not a striker!!!!!!!!
    Beginning to really worry now.

Who could blame them? No team in their right mind would sell their #1 keeper with little or no time to find a suitable replacement. We have had all summer to make a move and we leave it until the last minute as usual.

Why you worrying? We have Harry 'Goal Machine' Kane

    That what you mean?
In Fairness it's not his fault, I actually think he could do very well for us and he's not used to playing the loan striker role he's better as a second striker, despite that the team plays better with him leading the line than defoe.

I'm also really worried about this. In fact I've gone beyond being worried into a denial stage. I believe panic is next after which comes cold hard reality.

Obviously Levy values saving a few million ahead of points lost/gained in our opening matches. Even if someone signs ahead of the Newcastle game, how will he be expected to slot in? The same can be said for West Brom and any number of matches after those. And how has AVB conducting training sessions with no striker (Defoe aside)? I do think Levy has done a great job but in these cases the team and fans really lose out.

Against Newcastle, we have nobody to keep the ball up top, which means it'll keep coming back into our half and our defence will be under serious pressure for the whole match. Is that how AVB wants his team to play? Did he know that this was how things would pan out when he signed?

I just don't get it!

Totally agree. I have posted my rant about Levy in that thread but he really is putting the team second. Yes we may save a few quid by buying in the last few minutes of the transfer window but we may also lose/drop points in the first few games by not having a settled team. In the long run over the course of a season that may cost us a European place which in turn will mean the club loses out financially.

Look I am not saying we should just go out and buy someone for the sake of it but the striker situation was clear to all yet we seem to be linked with more attacking midfielders. Its too late to hope a new striker will fit into the team straight away. The only hope is that the Ade situation will be sorted out by Friday so he can play in out opening game without too much disruption in team selection/preparation.

Levy is far more concerned with Spurs doing well than you or I.

Strikers take no time to slot in. None at all. Most good strikers play particularly well on their debut.

AVB has conducted training sessions with Kane and/or Defoe.

Lets not panic. I still think Ade might be in the starting 11 on Saturday.

While there are a few that have started very well, such as Jelavic and Aguerro, there are many more that haven't like Rebrov, Crespo, Shevchenko, Armstrong, Dzeko, Berbatov, to name but a few - all excellent strikers. If Ade joins, I reckon he'll settle in pretty quickly but how quickly anyone else settles will depend on the type of game the team plays and if they don't have that type of striker to train with, how can they get it right in real matches?

I really hope Ade is in the starting 11. He will lift the spirits of everyone associated with Spurs, regardless of the fact that he hasn't trained with the team as he knows almost everyone and seems to get on well with everyone.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that he's here on time!

Could you imagine if we didn't sign any strikers and we were left with Defoe, Harry Kane and the other youth strikers

Could you imagine Defoe gets injured playing for England tomorrow night. Leading the line away v Newcastle on Saturday would be Harry Kane and no replacements on the bench.

Well of course there are plenty of exceptions, but generally a good striker will play extra well on his debut. They don't have to fit in with the back 4 or have a vague midfield position. Their role is clearly defined and they know what they have to do. It takes no settling in at all, that's just waffle manager talk.

All this settling in thing is fairly waffly. Defenders do need to train with their back 4 and get their timing right etc, but for the rest of the team it's all fairly common sense, nothing a manager shouldn't be able to convey to them within one training session, if that.

Often the teams which make good starts to the Premiership are those which have the most new faces.

Apparently you won't need much time fitting in, so that's ok:)

Did avb let Defoe join the England squad or once called up does he have to go? It is madness to let him play a meaningless friendly for England, when he's patently not going to be in Roy's 442 for brazil 2014 and we have no backup bar gar?

This lack of signings is really pissing me off even though I expected it. Last minute every time...

The first 3 games we have should be looking for minimum of 7 points so if we get that will be happy, just not seeing where the goals are coming from. Hope Defoe proves me wrong but dont think he is the man to lead the line with a front 3 as such or maybe it will be Kane who I dont think is up to it yet either. Happy to be proven completely wrong and come away with 7-9 points from these games...

I say if we don't get 7/9 or 9/9 points in our first 3 games we should sack AVB and rehire Christian Gross :pac:

I very much doubt that Defoe is in AVB's plans. I'd say he'll head to Sunderland (or another mid-table side) when we resign Ade and sign another striker!

Ah yeah I'm not claiming he is the answer to our problems, but he would be a much better stop gap than Kane or Defoe. Decent back up long term. I'd take him over Saha or Pav for that matter.

I'd say he'll be here til Christmas at this stage.

If we do not hire someone else soon, I'd even take Saha back at this point, he is a free agent now after all. A pay as you play contract or something.

just as a matter of interest why are people unhappy with this Harry Kane chap? if AVB seems to think that he's worth a shout as a striker then thats more than most on here now about him.... although I do think that we need 2 new strikers and a keeper in at least

I don't think people are unhappy with Kane, just feel he is too inexperienced to rely on.

Most would be happy for him to get a few games this season.

To be honest, I'm more pissed off that a club supposedly challenging for the top 4 has only one senior striker on its books so close to the start of the season than the fact that someone who is more or less untested at this level (ok he's played a few games but hasn't scored yet as far as I can remember) looks like being the number 2!
