Still think we need competition on the wings for Bale and Lennon with the latter often too inconsistent in the final third. That said, I hope Townsend makes the grade, AVB was waxing about him yesterday.

Probably get slated for this but the question I ask is whether Ferguson would buy the player from us if we let him leave? With Lennon I don't think so, he's 25 now and his passing and crossing continues too frustrate, don't get me wrong I love the little fella but is there much more to his game than pace?

    *takes cover*

Ah no need to take cover, there is some truth in what you say. I think Lennon has flattered to deceive this season but for the previous 2 seasons his crossing was very consistent. He is still not a confident finisher but I honestly believe he has another gear in him if his confidence starts to flow.

Apart from that, he has become excellent at covering his full back and his partnership with Walker will terrify any defence. We missed him badly in the latter half of last season while Walker was still learning.

Without him and Bale in the team we look ponderous and predictable.

spot on. Like I said the other day, 1 good run and cross is normally followed by 2 or 3 poor ones. Excellent to have in the side though, mainy due to his pace.Doesn't score anywhere near enough goals as he should.

Dont think Lennon has progressed much since he first broke into the team. That said we do miss him when he's not playing. He is a great out ball.

His finishing is still poor but his crossing has improved dramatically, his crosses now lack pace but they usually reach the target. They used to either go out of play or not clear the first man.

Maybe harsh but his only real asset is his pace, which is great for the counter attack as you say. But he's still the same as he was when he first broke in to the team. No pace on his deliveries and a chronic goal scoring record. Still wouldn't sell him though :o

Serious question here, are we going to be without Adebayor for the whole month of January and perhaps some of February depending on Togos progression in the ACON?

Rumours circulating today that we're poised to make a move for Andy Carroll in January. I'd find it hard to believe AVB would approve of this but it could have Levy written all over it, 23yr old English international at a 60% discount?

It's possible he could have an immediate impact having only to switch from our local feeder club West Ham.

    :eek::eek::eek: I'm scared!

I forgot about that tournament, we’ll have to buy someone? We’ve got to be one of the worst clubs in the transfer market. I don’t see Carroll as any improvement.

Crouch is pretty similar and we let him go, there just big target men. We had some success with VDV and Crouch. I really don’t want to watch us pinging long balls as a plan B. Christ it’s depressing as is.

We need a playmaker and a striker imo. Some good enough to actually replace Modric/VDV (Dempsey and Siggy aren't good enough), and we need someone like Defoe, but better.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

Could be tricky to as Liverpool will be in the market for a striker too.

Talk that Huntelaar's contract is up next summer and that Schalke could be tempted by a bid. Would any player want to leave a team in the middle of a good Champions League run though? Unlikely.

Willians price will have gone up after tonight's performance, pity we didn't get him looks the player we need to play in the hole

He would have been a better shout than the two who were signed to play there anyway.

Not a hope in hell we'll sign Willian now. He's too good for us and will have his pick of teams who arw still in CL or are serious CL contenders for next season.
Eduardo was spouting stuff last week about Willian having 3 options in the EPL and we're not one of them. I read some direct quotes attributed to Willian where he said he was an arsenal fan too.

Didn't know what thread to put this in, but looks like we won't be losing Adebayor in Jan (He'll probably change his mind between now and then though:rolleyes:)

2 weeks ago i honestly thought we 'd have no chance of signing the likes of Willian or Damiao, i think Damiao even came out and said he'd like to join Chelsea only last week.... What a difference 1-2 weeks make......
    please note.........

we still wont sign either one....

    3 wishes..

What Defender, Midfielder and Attacker would you like to sign...

    £35m to spend...

    Defender - Left Full - ?????????

    Midfielder - Mouthino - £22m.

    Attacker - Shane Long £7m.

once benny and kaboul are back, i reckon we are covered in defense.

Asked if he will be banging down his chairman's door demanding cash to splash in the January sales, the Portuguese coach said: "I don't think we need it, to be fair.

"We have three top players coming back from injury that played most of the games last season - Younes Kabul, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Scott Parker.

"These will be major additions to our squad and we are happy to continue with this squad."

I know it's The Star, but the quotes are direct.

I can't see us bringing Moutinho in mid-season. Though Huntelaar is a possibility. Though would he want to give up Champions League football?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Antisocialiser

Doubt he would, but if Schalke are at risk of losing him for nothing he may get pushed out the door, no?

Saw a report that United have agreed a 12m fee for Lewandowski! Can't imagine why they would need him but that would be a great bargain imo.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,162 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I can't see us getting Moutinho in Jan either to be honest. I think we had our chance with his, and lost it. Would love to get him and Huntelaar though.

Isn't the Moutinho chase over since we got Dembele instead?

i dont think so because when dembele was injured, our midfield seriously lacked creativity. if we wer to bag moutinho, it would give us sufficient strenght and depth. i would still play the same formation with sandro as holding mid and moutinho beside him. i would play dembele where dempsey is at the moment. moutinho and dembele would both be capable of rotating roles making them harder for defences to pick up.

i reckon with sandro, moutinho and dembele we would have one of the best midfields in the EPL.

Its such a hard act to balance getting a squad thats equipped to play 55 odd games a year whilst keeping everyone in it happy.

Just look at the amount of players weve sold the last 3/4 years but they were getting enough game time.

I believe with a fully fit squad we are maybe just missing a striker and perhaps a centre mid. But only if that was moutinho.

And to anyone who suggests shane long......absolutely no thanks

Levy wont spend money in January unless he can haggle the sh1t out of somebody.

If the Moutinho deal were to be resurrected it would be next summer as Porto have already qualified for the next round of the CL.

If Adebayor doesn't head for the ACN I can see us doing very little.

Spot on, the chances of us spending 20m odd on someone in Jan is very slim imo.

Llorente has apparently said that he wont be signing a new deal with bilbao at the end of the season and is looking to move on according to the BBC.

Get on the blower Mr. Levy
