Apparently AVB sat beside Ferguson of all people!

I wouldn't totally write off Hooper. He's nosuperstar but he has knocked in more then 20 goals a season for Celtic since he joined. Good cover maybe

Well we have zero cover so he;d be an improvement on that. ;)

Read a great line about him earlier on another forum "If Hooper was from Real Sociadad and was called Gerrio Hoopio fellas would be creaming themselves bout the possibility of him signing" :D

When Robbie Keane couldnt hit a barn door with a banjo for us, he went to scotland at christmas and finished spl top scorer, says it all really.

Ramon Vega Also got Celtics player of the year so I do see your point but would you have him or nobody?

Gonna sound like a broken record here but YOUTH are there for a reason... Why are we one of the only clubs who don't give them a shot? Even though our GD is ridiculous compared to any other u21 side we're still not seeing some of the u21 top performers promoted and given a chance..

    Baffles me.

Rumours are Defoe is out injured for 2-4 weeks...

I just think we could do better, but if AVB thinks he can do a job then he must see something in him.

Saw this on twitter but it could be just an Arsenal fan starting a rumour. One report was he had an MRI after the United game, the other that he and Lennon clashed in training. It would make sense though if we were going in for Hooper.

Bad news that would make Levy look very stupid, some risks are not worth taking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Leinstersqspur

    Good timing??

Does this smack of Levy going cap in hand to clubs saying, 'come on there's only eight days left in the window, knock a few million off, sure we're broke!' or 'come on, sign for £60k a week and we'll increase it if we get CL football'

Plenty of business post a loss, it doesn't mean they are losing money or even short on capital.

Hooper plays for a team that recently did something we'll never do in any of our lifetime sadly, and thats beat Barcelona. The Scottish league is a joke but it doesn't mean a good player isn't a good player.

Henrik Larson had a good record in Scotland too and he wasn't bad.

It's unlikely DL will splash out £10m for 'cover'.

I think the youth idea is the way forward. Sure it's only for a couple of weeks before Adebayor gets back. There's no need to be taking gambles on players now.

If the Defoe rumours are true he'll have little choice..

Larsson scored 150goals in five seasons, hard to compare Gary Hooper.

You seem to say this with a bit of regret. What's the point in youth if we don't utilize them at a point when we need to. There's no point signing a striker for the sake of it when we already have numerous young players proving themselves under 21 and are eager to prove themselves at senior level. I can only imagine the hunger these guys have to show AVB their worth.

At this rate we might aswell scrap youth squads completely.

Still waiting on Defoe injury confirmation.

You're preaching to the choir. Here's a thread I started back in November - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=81887106. I'm all for youth promotion, as you'll read.

My comment above is suggesting there's no point in spending £10m on 'cover' when we have a youth team to supplement the first team and a very good striker coming back in a couple of weeks.

Instead of being pressurised in to gambling on a striker now, I'd rather hold on to that £10m and buy a better striker, with more time to settle in, for maybe £15-£20m in the Summer

There is every need to take a gamble on someone.

Yep, ridiculous. Setting a precedent, Eto'o going there (Russia) made him look like a huge hypocrite.

Standing up for his abuse in Spain quite vocally and publicly. Then taking a huge pay packet to go to a footballing culture with a bigger racial problem.

It's weird seeing no mention of us in the papers this morning. Don't think i'll ever get used to it being so quiet.

Always a good sign in my opinion ..we're not doing our business out the window of a range rover anymore..proper order...proper manager.

yeah but at the same time, I need my fix for some Spurs transfer rumours. I have a horrible feeling the only signing we'll make this window or on the final day is Holtby joining us this month and not in the summer.

Yeah, we need him now as cover for Parker

Ade lost his first match against Ivory Coast 2-1 a few days ago. They play Algeria on Saturday and then Tunisia on Wednesday. Pray for 2 losses!

In other news Falque has went to Almeria on loan. Also Llorente has signed a pre-contract with Juventus to join them in the summer.
