Having what could be a rock solid center back partnership is easily worth £10m imo.

And a goal threat at set pieces to add into that.

Spend the money Levy get this lad signed.

    Kaboul cost 9.5m

But my point is that some clubs drive a hard bargain and some don't. Spurs have been known to pay over the odds in times past, out of impatience or bad bargaining or whatever. The likes of Bentley, Postiga, Pav, Palacios, Corluka and Chimbonda come to mind.

If you get a reputation for being that kinda club, it means that selling clubs will call your bluff in transfer dealings.

Newcastle have been even worse than Spurs for this in the past.

1st 3 were very soft, as scoring how many times has kaboul blasted free kicks at a wall. More concerned with consistant back 4 next season. Few goals a bonus but let's sign him up 1st

So Eden Hazard signs for chelsea...and i hate him already.Sounds like he's their type of player, media whore, will fit in well with J.T. and co.
I positive thing to come from it is that they may not bid for modric now that they have him and Marin in the bag.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

No way will they bid for modric now with those two purchases

Marin and hazard are both v good players. Chelsea will be back next season

Swansea looking to take Giovani Dos Santos on loan. I’d love if this happened, guy deserves a break. Maybe Rodgers can get the best out of him.

what is happening with the vertonghen deal??? its taking far too long, i'm startimg to worry that levy is trying to be a bit too tight with money and we might not sign him. for the sake of 1-2 million, just get the deal done!

I was just thinking the same. I'm worried this deal won't go through. We desperately need a partner for Kaboul next season and Vertonghen is realistically our best available option. If we have to pay over the odds I think we should otherwise we're destined for at best 5th next season.

He will be with Belgium squad at the weekend in London, surely something might go ahead at that point, I hope!!

Hopefully Caulker comes back as good a centre half as walker did a right full.

VDV Rumours in papers today abut Schalke interest, would you sell for 15m ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,776 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

No, especially since Modric could very easily follow him out.

    Congrats on 3000 posts!

    hmm toughy,
I really like VDV but he frustrates the hell out of me at times.
He can be very self centred and believes the team should revolve around him at times and the side can make the team look off balance.

Then again he has that bit of magic that can get a goal out of nothing.
I would like to see him stay. I would also like to see him not take every corner or free kick. I am sometimes not surprised he doesn't look to take the kick outs.

Paying over the odds is suicidal. If we do it once we will have to do it again and again, cos clubs will know they can call our bluff in transfer dealings and we will cave.

If we show weakness we will be walked all over.

Completely agree with this. He is a luxury player and some games pass him by but he does have a touch of class.

The deal is probably done if Arsenal or anyone else were interested there would be more talk about it.

Spot on, he breaks my heart a lot of the time, but he loves a goal, especially against the goons.

New centre half in by the looks of it, nice one.

    Not quite.

ESPN Soccernet ‏@ESPNSoccernet Jumped the gun a bit there... @Jan_Vertonghen Don't believe everything the press writes. Nothing is confirmed. Still player of #Ajax

It's a fantastic buy if we do get him, especially without Champions League football. Him and Kaboul will be a great partnership. Also, nice to get someone early in the window rather then the last 2 minutes.

Sounds promising alright, he would be one of our best buys in recent years, himself and Kaboul would be a serious partnership.
