My friend is currently in college in England doing Radiography and has just completed first year. He is wondering if it is possible at all to change course and transfer to one in UCD preferably or any other college in Ireland and go straight into second year rather than start first year again. If anyone has any info would be much appreciated. Thanks very much.

    Second year (stage 2):
of the same programme that I’m attending in another institution

    Applications are considered provided:

    a) They meet the entry requirements of the class they are entering, except under the conditions outlined in 2.2.2 and 2.3.2 in the Transfer Policy.

    b) They are able to satisfy the progression requirements of the new programme (i.e this normally reqquires having at least 50 credits relevant to the target programme including all pre-requisites).

    c) There are places available in the new programme.

The School of Medicine and Medical Science in University College Dublin will normally consider transfer students to the Medicine degree programme only on humanitarian grounds on a case by case basis. Applications should be accompanied by an endorsement from the applicant’s current Dean and, if claiming medical grounds, a Medical Certificate.

Radiography is taught by the School of Medicine & Medicine Science, which, unfortunately enough, is the school in which only humanitarian grounds for transfers are accepted. Of course, if it is humanitarian grounds that your friend is going for, you're in with a shot.

In the link I gave, there's also information on how to apply.
Applications must be made online at www.ucd.ie/apply. Applicants should choose the 'undergrad transfer/readmission' application type when making an application. Applications open no later 1 April each year for admission the following September. The closing date is 1 July and any supporting documentation (including a non-refundable application fee) must be received by UCD Registry - Admissions within 24 hours of the closing date.
The deadline is July 1st, so he's loads of time.

Don't forget though, UCD Radiography is diagnostic, not therapeutic - so make sure your friend knows that, if it's relevant to what year's work they've done in the UK. But still, maybe 1st year is general to both types, so it mightn't make a difference even if he is doing therapeutic.

So yeah, either way, he's gonna have to have gotten the LC points (or equivalent) for Radiography in the first place, as it's the first thing on list.

There's loads more details on transfers here -
