Saw leaflets in the village today that there will be guided tours of Lucan House (it's the Italian embassy, not normally open to the public) during the Lucan Festival 2012 next month

Can't find the exact date / time, but will update this post when I can

Adults €5, children under 12 free. I'll be going :)

You have to pay for this now? I did the tour a couple of years ago and didn't have to pay

think its a major disadvantage for lucan that that's an embassy. a massive amount of land along the Liffey that we have no access to. it would be great to walk from the demesne down to the village.

I did the tour a few years back - free of charge too. I also agree that the house and grounds should be taken back for the people of Lucan to enjoy.
I don't have any thing against Italy or the ambassador, but I do not see why this wonderful and beautiful place should be shut away from the people of Lucan.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it said all proceeds go to charity

Taken back, as in nationalise them, communist style? :)

In an ideal world, we, the people would be able to enjoy the house and grounds but I don't think the state is affluent enough to buy out the current owner and turn them into a museum...

    Thanks for that -

Just to note - That tweet says just the grounds are open - maybe not get in the actual house...??

Tickets for walk in grounds of Lucan House €5

Thanks for sharing! Couldn't make it today myself, unfortunately. So the tour was garden only then, not the house?

Great pics. I'm really sorry I hadnt heard of this open day, would have loved to see the house. Your shots are great, it reminds a lot of Aldbourough house in Portland row in Dublin.

Garden only - as a residence they may take small groups - but not the 150+ that was there on the tour.
