    Hi

We have a service on our home alarm which texts us if the alarm goes off. However, if we travel up North, we don't get the text until we cross the border again, when travelling home, when all the texts come at once.

Does anyone know is this an alarm issue or mobile phone provider issue?

Friend suggested it may be simply a case that we need the country prefix (+353) inputted onto the alarm in front of the mobile numbers.

    Any ideas...?
    Thanks.

The text service will only work in the republic if using the land line. A way around this is to install a voice dialer on the system which will give you a voice message rather than the text or a GSM.

I would always recommend voice over text. A voice dialler knows if a call is received & understood . A text is just sent and thats it. It could be sitting in a message centre for hours.

A lot of people only find this out when the go abroad and don't receive a text from there alarm. A voice message will work in this case.

    Thanks Altor....couple of questions though.

Is installing a voice dialler the only way around this?

And any idea how much a voice dialer might cost, approximately?

And what's the difference in that and subscribing to a monitoring service?

    Thanks.

You can get a generic voice dialler for under €100.
A voice dialler rings the numbers directly & plays a recorded message.
A full monitoring service means controllers are getting the alarm call with all your details. They will in turn contact your key holders & the appropriate emergency services as/if required.

Other than a GSM the voice dialer is the only way around this issue.
A monitoring station controller will ring you and your keyholders.
The voice dialer will ring each phone in order of them being programmed looking for an acknowledgement.
