Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

As the title suggests i've a calf born yesterday afternoon fit & well.
I went down this morning and he's shivering while sucking his mother.
The field they're in is open enough but the older calves are cute enough to throw themselves down at the butt of the ditch, any danger of pneumonia or anything like that?

In this weather it's hard to know, but they usually shiver when full to the gills of milk

I think shivering is the bodys way to try and generate a bit of heat. I've seen lots of calves do it. Keep a good eye on him, but I think it's natural enough in a newborn.

Keep a tight eye on him. As long as he's sucking he's not too bad.
The big danger is if you get much rain, could develop a chill quickly.

If you get much ongoing rain you could consider bringing them in. While theyll survive being cold for a time, cold and wet is a bad mix on such a young calf.

in our house theres a dirty wash and a clean wash , so it goes with the dirty... the only clothes i hate washing are ones with diesel on them, smell never comes out and takes about 3 washes to get the smell out of the washing machine

There's an old saying/joke that relates to this quite nicely:

Why do calves shiver after they're born? He's scared that his father might get into an accident.

This goes back to when artificial inseminators used motorcycle for transport, which is known for being more dangerous than a car.
