Shame they will not have the A/B schools in same competition as C schools

At least there's the Umbrella 7's in Terenure on Saturday.

Jes and Marist should go through with Marist overall favourites.

    What about Munster Schools?

    good defence though.

    knockon, micheal's scrum inside 22

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

byrne with good clearance, lineout bridge.

goes wide sloppily and too deep.

and kick but goes dead. scrum micheals.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

lovely wrap around by byrne, but penalty for bridge.

    lineout on the 22.

territory and possession all bridge so far.

kick which leads to an accidental offside, scrum micheals.

great run by kelleher, leads to a lovely try by O'Hare

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

some wonderful off loads by the forwards, allen to penny to coulson to O'Hare.

    some great passes there.

all came from Kelleher's lovely break.

    7 - 0 to Micheals after 9 minutes.

    great conversion

    bridge going for the points.

bridge dominated territory so far, so really need to convert this to have something to show for all their effort.

    7 - 3.

    Healy converts.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

lovely kickoff, micheals claim. clever kick through by gilsenan just squirts out. lineout to bridge inside their 22.

not taken cleanly again., cleared but micheals lineout inside 22

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

penalty to micheals in from the side, byrne going for 3.

not the best angle for a right footed kicker and missed.

    7 - 3 to Micheals.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

    17 minutes gone.

good work by newbridge, penalty just inside micheals half, healy going for 3 points.

    very far out, just missed

    7 - 3 to Micheals.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

micheals penalty just outside their 22 for hands on the ground.

    lineout around halfway to micheals.

and wide, micheals making yards easily, some passing releases kelleher

great play by newbridge 7 causes penalty and cleared by bridge for lineout.

    overthrown and micheals have.

inside the 22 now, but again some good defence causes a penalty to be given away.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

bridge number 8 off for blood sub.

bridge kick, fails to find touch.

byrne passing very flat and finally clever kick behind the defence leads to lineout to bridge inside their 22.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,664 ✭✭✭opinionatedfan

    micheals disrupt and steal.

great drive by murphy and it goes wide again. 5m out.

byrne breaks a tackle and it keeps going.

    mccarthy breaks, try.

    12-3 to micheals.

I have no idea at all about schools rugby, I didn't go to any of the major rugby schools up home so never really cared.

Just saw the news on my facebook. Usually watch the final on tv on St Pats day if I have the time.

Looking at sides from previous games and players whove been looked at for international selection
Anderson, Atkinson RBAI and Kane, Lagan Methody are names that stand out

Munsters 19s for next season have a trial training session/game in Annacotty next monday night

FIRA competition that the Irish Schools are competing in starts friday week. Irelands first game is against Georgia friday week. 2nd game is against the winner/loser of France v Italy. Opponent in 3rd game will depend on how we do in the first 2 games.

Squad will be expected to do well considering the Schools were not competing until a few months ago(because of the proximity of the competition to the Senior Cups campaigns and Leaving Certificate mock exams.) when it was decided that the Schools would replace the Youths in the FIRA.
Presume squad will be the same as the squad that beat the Irish Youths
B Dardis (Terenure); C Brennan (Roscrea), A Leavy (St Michael's), F Cleary (Clongowes Wood), S McMahon (Rockwell); R Byrne (St Michael's), J Fullerton (Campbell); M Lagan (Methodist), S McNulty (Rockwell), O Heffernan (Roscrea), D O'Connor (Blackrock), J Ryan (St Michael's), J Murphy (St Michael's), R Moloney (Roscrea), N Timoney (Blackrock).
A Roche (Terenure), G Reynolds (King's Hospital), L O'Connor (CBC Cork), O Jager (Blackrock), R Lalor (Terenure), P Thornton (Terenure); C Rock (Blackrock), M Courtney (CBC Monkstown), J Owens
    (Campbell).

Also any news on the Ulster v Munster u19s fixture scheduled for saturday week?

How come they went back on the decision not to field the schools team? I'd expect Brewer and McCarthy to be in the schools squad too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭RobbieRuns

It still is the schools, don't think that he is saying that it changed again (just originally from the Youths).

Brewer and McCarthy will be there for sure, they were just injured at the Christmas and OL was just pointing out that the main squad was as listed for the game during that period. It will still be the bulk of the players, although cut down a bit for the tournament.

There will probably be a few other changes as well I am sure.

Good luck to them all, everyone expects them to do very well.

Fair play to Crescent for keeping going.
I hate to blame the Ref but the 'man' is an utter disgrace to humanity. 12 minutes of injury time in the second half alone.
He is the only one who understands why he did it and has to live with his decision.
That's it from me, a sad way to lose a game.
I will let MAR know my thoughts in writing
Good night and good luck to all

After the scolding the ref in the Munchins - Rockwell Match got for playing 5 min too little in the first half on a day where the wind was very strong and strongly benefitted the team with it. No wonder Munchins were furious, imagine an attacking scrum deep in the 22 and the ref blows for half time with 5 min left!!! Crazy.

How can such incompetence be accepted by MAR.

Have heard from people at the match that it wasn't 12 minutes at all despite the reports that it was. The timer started the second half at 40:00 when the match was only 35mins a half, meaning when the timer read 82, it was really only gone to 77 minutes, which wasn't outrageous when considering the injuries(apparently).

Any opinions on the Munster/Ulster finals due to be played tomorrow?
Think Rockwell and Methody will win

Attention will turn to the FIRA after tomorrows games unless there is draws and replays are required. How do people think the schools will do in this competition?
Results of some of some countries warm up games are below. Based on those Ireland and England will be the 2 favourites to make the final
    Georgia 46-12 London Wasps u18s
    Wales 29-27 France
    England 57-13 Scotland
    Scotland 25-0 Ireland Youths
    England 44-7 Wales
    Hartpury College U18 31-26 Georgia U18
    Italy U18 14-27 Japan U18
    Wales u18 12 Leicester Academy 22
    England u18 28 Leicester Academy 27

Played youths round xmas but doubt they will have played any games recently because of the cups. First game next friday

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭RobbieRuns

Schools first game of the FIRA is against Georgia, who lost a warm up game to England U17 this weekend. They should win that comfortably. The next game will probably be against France who play Italy first (who drew with the Irish Clubs). France will always be tough. England probably await the winner of the Ireland France game to decide the overall winner. I would say that we have a great chance of winning the tournament.

Going by Bernard Jackman on Against The Head he was saying French underage rugby is in trouble and the production line is not strong. He says they are under conditioned and behind in the physicality ranks by about a year.
