All the callers had to be trolling today. To imagine that they were real people walking the streets is too horrifying.

while joe bored the backsides of us the last while with that ippy stuff he actually did some good in highlighting a topic that is critical to a small amount of peoples lives but then he goes on with that tripe yesterday & today over which olympian needs an ego boost. The guy really hasnt a clue how to be a professional broadcaster and what actually matters to people in reality. planet joe is a fcuked up place

CBC Sports have listed it at number 5 in their top 10 of drug scandals
    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/drugs/stories/top10.html
    5. Last to first: Irish swimmer Michelle Smith
Irish eyes were smiling during the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Michelle Smith was the pride of Ireland after winning three gold and one bronze medal in the pool.

No one else was smiling. Her rise to the top of the swimming world was extremely suspicious.

In two previous Olympic Games, Smith's best result was 17th in the 200-metre backstroke.

In 1993, she was ranked 90th in the world in the 400 individual medley, but after training with husband Erik de Bruin – a former Dutch discus thrower who was under a four-year suspension for failing a drug test – she vaulted into 17th in the world by the next year.

By Atlanta, the 26-year-old Smith had won several European titles and trimmed a whopping 17 seconds off two personal bests.

After her Olympic success, it was discovered that FINA, swimming's international federation, had repeatedly expressed concern that Smith was unavailable for out-of-competition drug tests from 1995 onward.

Finally, in 1998, two drug testers showed up at Smith and de Bruin's home.

Smith gave them a sample, but because she was wearing a bulky sweater, the tester couldn't see what she was doing. The sample was sealed and sent to a Barcelona lab for examination. The results were shocking. The sample contained a level of alcohol that would be fatal if consumed by a human.

FINA concluded that the sample had been manipulated, that whiskey had been added as a masking agent and they suspended Smith for four years.

Those athletes who finished behind Smith in 1996 – including Canadians Marianne Limpert (silver) and Joanne Malar (fourth) in the 200IM – can only wonder what might have been.

Had to come in, please Michelle is a liar, she cheated and that is that.
She and her father who is defending her should hang there heads in shame.
Any link to evidence for that statement? AFAIK she was never found to have cheated on anything, she was found to have interfered with an out of competition sample.
Just for once, it would be nice if jonjo got his facts right.

Interfering with a sample is not cheating?

She probably just interfered with her sample for a laugh, and her astonishing improvement from international no-hoper to multiple Olympic champion was pure coincidence. That fact that her husband was also a convicted drug cheat is a further unfortunate coincidence.:rolleyes:

try telling that to Marianne Limpert (silver) and Joanne Malar (fourth) in the 200IM, i am sure those women would have their own opinions an you won`t find them highlighted on the lavhnlahn

That's the same usual Irish contradiction though... We give out about Haughey and Burke, yet still the people of North Tipperary vote in a crook... Similarly we say "oh Michelle is great, she wasnt on drugs", but when Sonia O'Sullivan was beaten by the three Chinese or Gabriella Szabo then everybody comlains how she was beaten by drug cheats..

Sounds as if he's continuing his campaign to have the Olympic torch carried by "Mee-shell" ......80% of callers allegedly want her to , Joe wants her to, so ring in with your endorsements as Joe hits the trail again..."I closed the headshops and now I'm carrying a torch for Mee-shell".

Think he's gearing up for Poll-een at 30 cents a pop on this vital issue.

A matter of such national importance that minor matters such as job creation, the fiscal treaty, clerical child abuse and of course, the Father Reynolds Prime Time scandal can be ignored by the show which on the RTE website claims to "continue to make the news headlines uncovering controversies and scandals".

As always Joe's personal agenda takes priority over all other matters.

Who gives a fu*k about Olympic torch's, it has to be about Greece today, that country's heading down the jacks with huge repercussions for Ireland and Europe.

discussing the Olympic Torch relay will allow RTE to provide more plugs for the talentless but annoying jedtards

if he does then as usual Joe will dig deep to uncover what lies at the heart of the Greek crisis and how it affects de-man-on-de stree'.

Cue a phone call from Joe to Paddy O'Irishmans' Plastic Shamrock Taverna in downtown Mykonos.
