Thinking of hitting somewhere in Europe this year. Anyone got any ideas? Somewhere hot with a decent lineup would be ideal :D

I'd especially like to hear from people who have been to European festivals before.

Tomorrowland is the one i wanted to go to this summer but didnt get a ticket - why put them on sale easter w/end. But will get to Pukkelpop which is class apart from last year.

And small one in Luxembourg - Rock A Field but will hopefully get to Melt Festival too this year in Germany

If you have a last.fm account you can go into the events section and it will recommend you festivals based on what you are listening to.

Here's the European ones I've been to:
Sziget - Very fun camping atmosphere and crowd. Lineups can be weak, cheap drink but not allowed bring your own into the campsite. Food is pricier than it should be.

Rock Werchter - Relaxed camping and crowd (a bit too relaxed). Great lineups in general but you wont get a ticket now. Reasonable drink and food prices. Not much outside of music to do but it's fun.

Rock En Seine - Didn't camp, crowd were chilled and a bit too cool for their own good. Expensive drink but some great food. Nothing other than music really. Site was crowded and could have done with better facilities.

Roskilde - Brilliant camping grounds and crowd. Decently priced drink and excellent value food. Lots to do. Site was dusty and filthy and you better not have a thing against public urination but a small minus.

I think Roskilde is the closet one you will get to Glastonbury AFAIK (never been)

I also recommend Rock Im Park (if you are more into just mainly into Rock) and Pukkelpop

As a little pet project I setup a website which lists some of the bigger music festivals in Europe. You might find it useful in choosing the type of festival you want to go to.

If you go to the european festivals section here on festivals.ie you'll see a list of most of the main music festivals in Europe.

I've been to SW4 in London myself and that was pretty slick, cool crowd, they sold cans, food was reasonable.

Tomorrowland looks amazing from their videos, but not been myself. Benicassim is supposed to be very good too.

Ridiculously good line up for 115 quid, Dour usually goes under the radar a bit.

http://www.optimusalive.com/en is just outside Lisbon, Portugal.
    http://www.bilbaobbklive.com/2012/ in Bilbao, Spain.

Roskilde is known for being the biggest festival outside of from Glastonbury.

http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/ good site with full list of all festivals.

Get to Benicassim ! went two years in a row and its class. you can make a holiday of it too. we rented an apartment with a pool and all that jazz, so you get that aspect of a holiday and then also a class festival with a sound crowd and good line-up.prices arent too bad either

    Rock Werchter this year......can't wait

I've heard the crowd at Benni is awful, mostly English on lads holidays?

thats not what i experienced and i reckon i would have noticed that. There were a lot of english, but they seemed to be more the college crowd.
My experience was a fairly laid back crowd, with no tossers or attention seekers, and no grief from anyone

My site might be able to help you decide which festival in Europe would suit best - http://www.festivals.ie/ - have a look at the map in Europe.

Still loads of big one's to come, V Festivals, Reading/Leeds in the UK....then Rock En Seine, Bestival and Berlin Festival in Europe.

This calendar might be of use to you too - http://www.festivals.ie/festival/calendar
