    whats the best Irish network to be on for roaming in Perth Aus?

    no interest in data, just calls and texts on prepay...

    Get an Australian sim/burner phone.

    All of the Irish networks websites will tell you the rates charged by their partner networks in any specific country, their websites typically have a link for 'Roaming' where you can check. You can then decide if it's worth manually setting the network when you get there so that you roam on the network with the lowest charges for your planed usage.

    Thanks for the info folks , after reading through lots of threads about three issues, Going to steer clear..

    Friend has decided on going with Vodafone prepay and just topping it up
    To keep number alive and to receive texts

    I would imagine Vodafone Ireland would be the best one to roam with as you can use Vodafone Passport to roam in Australia and you can roam on whatever network you want then. This means you could roam on Optus/Telstra/Vodafone AU, and receive a call for 79c for the duration of the call. 3 Like Home is no longer available for Australia and Meteor &02 are substantially more expensive to use out there.
