Wow, really surprised to get 208 points, 98th percentile. Didn't think i stood a chance. My only worry now is that i don't know what the LC-equivalent of my Norwegian grades is, so im not sure how good a chance i really stand

It automatically displays the highest one I think, my one from last year has disappeared too since this morning.

Does it say "Result 2 N/A" beside your "Result 1"

Another Norwegian on the HPAT thread!

Is it the percentile or the score that you keep? I always thought it was % but the CAO have no idea of your % and always choose the higher score because even though your score may not be higher this year it could still be a higher %.

What is UCC like? I haven't really looked at it and never visited it. Anyone have any thoughts on it from when they were there? :)

SDCards if you are over 23 you should try apply through mature entry. You might still have to repeat the hpat but the score needed isn't as high. Just a thought

I live quite near it so I'm in there very often, it's quite nice in fairness, the whole UCC campus is reasonably nice and modern (except the Kane building) medicine is based in Brookfield Health Science complex which is only a minute walk from the main campus. Cork City itself has almost everything you need also and reasonable enough nightlife!

But your percentile from the previous year will change? Acer don't issue you a new percentile, because like you say it's really just for comparison purposes, but the value of x score changes every year.

If you scored 180 and that was 80th percentile and the following year you score 190 which is now 75th percentile, the 180 you scored in the previous year isn't 'worth' 80th percentile anymore.

I think that's what you're trying to say anyway :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 49 SupDoc

oh ok I think I get :) So if that change did happen in your example^ it would be acer who would just give you the 80th% rather than your new lower 75th%, and this is the 80th% score which the CAO receive.

First and foremost, congratulations on all of your fantastic results!
I'm a 2014 hopeful, and I'm just wondering if any of you can gift me with some words of advice, and of wisdom with regards to HPAT preparation, and indeed the big LC!
How should I balance to the two next year? Should I put more work into my HPAT or spend more time studying for my leaving cert?
I really hope you were all happy with your results this year, and deepest condolences to those who were unsatisfied!

Well the CAO have them both, they just display the one with the highest score. Say, you did worse this year, last years score will still appear on your CAO as your best, however the percentile would be different this year, as your score from last year would now be in competition with all the scores from this year.

I did first year Biological and Chemical Sciences in UCC this year, stayed in student accommodation roughly 5-10 min walk from campus.

It is a fantastic college with great facilities and I absolutely adore it! I felt so at home in cork city everything is only a short walk or bus away.
Going out in Cork is great, Tuesday and Thursday are the main nights. Even places such as the Brog and the Bailey which have no entry fee always make a fantastic night out and are great for class parties.

I had roommates who were nurses so the whole placement thing which I'm sure med students will do aswell is only again a short walk or bus from campus ie. CUH, the Bons etc.

I have 750 combining this hpat and LC 2012 so ill be there myself in September please god.

That's my backup if all goes tits up in my LC results, did you have to chose which area to specialise in yet?

Nah First year is a bit of a doss! If you're an A student in Chemistry, the Chemistry is no challenge, if you have any chem done the chem is manageable
If you have any grasp of physics the physics is grand.
The Maths is basically leaving cert honours.
The Biology branches out into four modules, some interesting. . .one (ecology) not so interesting :P but they chop and change so you're never doing one for too long :)

Overall for first year it's your leaving cert sciences built on and progressed. Once you do well in your first year exams you can pick any stream for second year onwards and build up the modules to suit yourself.
if you fail first year exams you may not get your first choice for Second year but if you attend lectures and make your labs you're safe out!

I might also, all going well anyway! BTW I'm 17 so 25 definitely seems old to me ;)

Thanks! I really wanted to do grad med and when i wasnt eligible for that that made me more determined to get a place in this route. Big commitment to go back meaning dropping everything and moving home to cork and being broke for a few years not looking forward to that aspect of it but hopefully it'll be worth it!
