Seriously the search is rubbish on boards, i know xavi6 made the thread and it contained the words "best" "goal" and a poll.

if a mod can find it can they tack this onto the end of it.

    Rooney 1st bergkamp 2nd.

Cisse's last night is up there imo, sheer technique.

Can't believe a mis-kick wins the award. :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 633 ✭✭✭Bertser

    Will always be my favourite:

Not a Man U fan or anything, but shocking that wasn't in the options for the award considering the quality of a couple of the others in my opinion (Le Tissier vs Blackburn, Cantona vs Sunderland, good goals but not exactly rare occurrences).

too many united fans in the world. bergkamp's all the way for me, disturbingly good control of the ball

The best goal wasnt even for selection as far as I remember.

    Bergkamp v Leicester

Rooney's was very recent. Rooney is English. Rooney plays for Manchester United.

These are the reasons his goal won.

Yeboah v Wimbledon is the best imo, not a shinner to be seen.

It's not even Rooney's best goal either.

Always thought people made bergkamps goal out to be so much better than it was, if I saw it for the first time after hearing all the hype I would be quite disappointed

edit: the one vs leicester fyi

Rooney's goal was spectacular, but I dont even think it was his own best goal. That was against Newcastle

The best over 20 seasons belonged to Di Canio though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I would have voted Bergkamp or Rooney's v Newcastle or Di Canio's against Wimbeldon.

My favourite though is Essien V Arsenal as it kept our unbeaten home record intact at the time in the EPL.

Pretty sure that was the FA Cup.

    It sure was : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/2431805/Newcastle-laid-bare-by-Bergkamp.html

It WAS a goal that took Dennis Bergkamp just the fraction of a second, but it will live with Nikos Dabizas all week. Right up to the moment when the Newcastle defender steps out alongside Arsenal's Dutch striker in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday with one instruction burning in his mind: do not leave this man unattended in the penalty area

Im a United fan and voted for bergkamps V Newcastle. My favourite United goal of the 20 seasons would have been Scholes volley Vs Villa. Not sure which way i would have voted if that was there

Bergkamp's v Newcastle the best one no question in my mind!

I can see myself coming back to this thread again and again. Feck trying to pick the "best" goal. Every one of those ^^^ is worth watching.

Very few dribbles in the 20. Le Tiss and not much more is all I remember from watching it before.

As for the Berkamp goal, I am not sure that it was intention to do what he did, but he did know where the ball was going after his first touch.

Also I am less than impressed with the Rooney goal winning.

Not the best but has to get a mention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

Rooney's goal winning is absolutely ridiculous tbh.

As has been pointed out, it's not even his best goal!

Plus, there was two better goals this week alone!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,683 ✭✭✭plasmaguy

Of the top 20, you could include about 10 of Le Tissiers, 5 of Berkamp and 5 of Henry, they being goals of true class and brilliance.

Most of the others were flukes or potshots.

This is a very underated goal I think

    gerrard vs boro for me.

    cracking strike

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭bullvine

I think the Essien one posted earlier is the best long range strike I've seen, the way it curved it at the end was just unreal.

Yeah I'm sure there are a lot of kids and biased fans along with people with a limited interest voting. Rooney's goal was very good there's no doubt but as posted earlier he's scored better himself and its the type of goal that looks great when it comes off not great when it doesn't.

Bergkamp wins it hands down for me, from Arsenal winning the ball deep in their own half to launching a quick attack with some great passes. Bergkamp's piece of magic then is just incredible. It's sad that some people consider it a fluke but tbh I just reckon they're bitter fans of another club. Dabizas was a top defender for Newcastle one of their best centre back's of the PL era and he was made look like a fool, by Bergkamp, which happens incredibly rarely.

Very often when best goal is considered many feel it automatically has to be a wonder-strike from nothing. Definitely not the case imo.

its an amazing strike alright, i think this one trumps it though, I don't think i've ever seen a ball being struck so cleanly!

i never got the wan*fest that ensued after the 2 berkamp goals.. both of them obviously have plenty of class, but its something that doesnt stand out for me as some of the other goals do.

give me a 25 yard volley from shearer, rooney, henry or cisse any day of the week before them.

Good goal but I think it takes a deflection so that takes a bit away from it.

good goal, but even for that type of goal, cisses and crouches were away better.

Rooney's against City isn't even his best Premier League goal IMO (that would be his volley against Newcastle)

Shearer's against Everton should have won this one IMO.

Manchester United having one of, if not the biggest fan base in the world will have helped sway the vote a bit I'm sure.

We talking about the same one ? Where it came to him and he flicks it up, turns 180 and top corner ?

    Can't find a decent link

That's my favourite Arsenal goal ever anyway, with Bergkamp's a close 2nd.
