Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Flawless fake tan application

Ladies, I need your help. I bought Clarins Delicious fake tan recently as it always looks fabulous on a friend and applied it using my fingers on my legs, face, arms and chest.

It looks, ok.. I suppose. The arms are good and the colour is nice, similar to Lancome Flash Bronzer which I used to use. But it's a bit heavy around my toes (you know the way your toes go darker) and my ankles are a bit stained.

I need tips on how to apply this flawlessly! Should I have used a mitt? I heard that you should apply it to your face using a foundation brush. Should I mix the fake tan with a blob of moisturizer to dilute it?

    Share with me your tips!

I always use a mitt. Were your hands not stained afterwards? I add a drop of moisturiser when i get to my feet as it tends to stain darker and its harder to blend as feet are so boney.Adding the moisturiser takes the harshness of the tan and blends very nicely. On my hands i kind of bend the mitt and cup and sweep each finger lightly rather than just running the mitt straight across. It seems to stop the white patch webbed look :D

They're not super stained Thank god. In fact, the tan came out quite nice. My feet are a bit of a disaster though. My toes are very dark and randomly enough my heels are really brown.

Plus I'm a bit fearful that my face is orange. :(

Hopefully it'll look nicer under my foundation.

I've heard a lot about mixing fake tan with moisturizer - seems like a good idea, especially as you need to moisturize anyway and it might be a good way to lengthen the time the tan lasts.

In an ideal world, I'll put a couple of drops of tan into my daily moisturizing routine and be tanned all summer long! Does anyone else do this?

I would apply moisturiser to your feet in the days running up to tanning. Make sure you scrub your feet really well beforehand too. I normally put tan on them lightly and then put some moisturiser over straight after. It normally turns out well. I think you need a very light hand when it comes to feet.

I use nitrile gloves for application and then do my hands afterwards and again put moisturiser on after. I then wipe my palms with an old towel as I don't think it looks good to have orange palms. I also wipe my nails to make sure none has settled there and could turn them brown.

I only apply a little to my face as a little goes a long way. I make sure to rub it into my hair line and ear lobes and also do behind my ears as it looks stupid if your face is tanned and the skin behind your ears is bright white with your hair up.

I use Lancome Flash Bronzer Mousse.

I'd recommend using a mitt so you can buff the tan in easily and evenly.

Your hands and feet will absorb the tan much easier than other body parts so I always start with some tan at the top of my leg, then work my way down and apply whatever tiny amount is still soaked into the mitt on my feet. Same idea when doing arms/hands.

Some tans won't apply well if they're mixed with moisturiser or applied to freshly moisturised skin so be careful before mixing them. I use a weekly self tanner (He Shi Liquid Express) and it has to go on unmoisturised skin or it doesn't work. I just moisturise the following day and every day until the day I want to apply it again.

If you wanted to do some repairs....I've learnt lemon juice is good for removing tan quickly!
