Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

THE OWNERS of a 100-year-old tortoise were left shell-shocked at the weekend after the pet which has been part of their family for 40 years ran away from home in Dublin.

Florentine the Tortoise fled the leafy Rathgar back garden that has been his stomping ground since the early 1970s on Saturday evening, after he spotted an opportunity to make a bolt for freedom when a member of the family inadvertently left a side gate open.

Once his owners, the Eogan family, realised he was missing they quickly launched an extensive social media campaign. Within hours, the plight of the tortoise had become a top trending topic on Twitter.

Some tweets on it... Someone pretending to be cardinal Brady: "My cunning plan to use the #rathgartortoise hashtag to distract everybody from my non resignation is working like a dream."

Another guy: "NAMA join the hunt for the #RathgarTortoise , apparently they own his Shell - It was deemed not to be his primary residence."

Any word on where they found him? Would be surprised if he even made it out of the front garden, probably just sheltered under a bush or garden shed somewhere.

It seems actually like it just decided to come back. Not that it was found really. We'll see if they update more on it. I'm sure they'll get lots of people tweet them. so its likely they'll update.

I think ran away is a bit of an exaggeration more a slow walk.

Yeah, but doesn't quite sound the same way if it was reported as it slowly walked, stumbled, staggered or any other words you might want to put it. Media sensationalism. It's got to be like a Hollywood movie these days. Surprised there wasn't a love interest brought in to it.

Regardless, another tweet: "Maeve Eogan ‏ @meogan
@mattp156 @surfguna yes he's back! Rocked up today, bet he read the Irish times!"

He was probably in the garden the whole time, hiding in the grass.

Reports are coming in that a gang of snails have hijacked it, last seen heading through Coolock with a snail hanging on to its shell for dear life.

I've heard of slow news days but this is ridiculous . . . . .

Found it, had buried itself in the garden, never made it out.

Strange, they do bury themselves but usually towards the end of summer in preparation to hibernate - arctic summer on the way then:(
