no passport but must fly

    As title suggests, my passport is out of date and i need to get to england, manchester for funeral on friday... will any airline accept my full driving licence

    Aer lingus will anyway. Even a bus pass/work id with photo is fine for them.

    Ferry and train to Manchester is doable from Dublin.

    I believe that the Passport Office will express a renewal if you turn up in person and bring some proof of urgency.

    You'll get a new one easy enough.

    People manage to get them the day before when they don't bother to check if they had them "in date", make you go to the expense of booking a holiday and then only tell you the day before that they aren't sure their passport is valid....

    Driver's licence is fine to UK assuming that you are an Irish/British citizen of course (and not flying with Ryanair).

    If you show up with an Irish driver's licence, how can they tell if you are not a UK/Irish citizen?

    My point being that the principle of the common travel area doesn't apply only to citizens of both countries.

    Says it on the licence. Sorry thats not strictly true - it gives your country of birth.
