Can I ask what would be the best option for an extinguisher for a domestic house and especially with an electrical fire (fire caused by an electrical fault)??

Why do most shops and DIY stores only sell powder extinguishers for houses?

    Thanks.:)

For strictly electrical CO2 is the best, but in a house the powder is probably better the choice. Reason being the powder is effective on multiple materials, and cools the process down. In a house the fire is likely to have a few different materials

Justy wondering, because theres a thread on another forum where the fire brigade themselves complained about a homeowner using powder extinguishers to put out a fire and that the "powder" made it hard for the "firemem" to breath normally.:eek:

Dont fireman use breathing equipement these days???

So they said to the homeowner to get CO2 extinguishers in future.

For the hotpress in the confined space the CO2 would be effective, but if it had spread the powder was the best thing to have imo. The CO2 are great as they leave no mess, and they can take control really quick, but for houses i think the powder is a better choice. The one major disadvantage is ofcourse the mess it makes but who cares if it prevents something more serious

If its true what the fire brigade said to the homeowner......then I find that attitude quite shocking indeed.

Lets just forget the fact the homeowner saved his house himself with the powder extinguishers and also saved anyone from dying.

The fire brigade seem more worried and concerned about the "powder causing them more breathing difficulties with powder than with smoke".

So does using a powder extinguisher prevent the fire men from breathing wither their breathing equipement??????
