surely this must be the first ever punk rock song

recorded in 68, 8 yrs before punk arrived on the scene, it has all the madness distorted vocals, nutty lyrics of punk

    agree?

A quick look at wikipedia shows The Stooges self titled album came out a few months before, silly technicalities though

I'd say that Helter Skelter is a lot closer to hard rock than punk.

Also, I think The Monks were kinda closer to punk and they released their only album in 1966

Frank Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention ,Velvet Underground and a load of garage bands across America back in the mid to late sixties were making punk-ish records and doing the whole punk club scene long before UK .
