The U.S. government is developing implantable sensor microchips for use in American troops, supposedly to monitor their health on the battlefield, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced earlier this year seeking proposals. But critics of the scheme are speaking out, warning that the new technology could just be a prelude to expanding the use of related devices among the general population — with dangerous implications for freedom and privacy.

According to news reports about the development, DARPA believes that being able to instantly receive updates about any potential medical problems among soldiers would give the U.S. armed forces an advantage over adversaries. Calling the implants "a truly disruptive innovation," the agency said the nanotechnology could revolutionize war — especially because most medical evacuations are a result of illness or disease rather than injuries sustained in battle.

I do believe it has been founded that the chip and pin credit cards are not encrypted and can read by a scanner....the scanner can be held at pocket height and read peoples cards as they walk by. Talk over here is that Mythbusters got one of the scanners and did it for an episode. It pulled account numbers and owners personal info. The show never made it to air...

This has been my point all along and its not just America, its the rest of the world, one only has to look at the UK. We are not too far behind either and I also wonder whose financing it.

You need to open your mind actually. We dont and never will live in a dystopian society. Personal info is precious for being personal. Knowledge of someone is power over them.
Like everything else a system like this will be abused and the further down the line you get the greater the abuse.
Targeted advertisements are not something to preach for and neither is retarded preschool level openness. Government and business can and will abuse anything to further their ends to the detriment of the people. That only takes looking at the world, and not exactly a long one.

And everyone does something illegal unless youre a child. We all cheat and lie, sometimes because we have to. Its no ones business but mine what I do and where I go. My life isnt Ed TV. Ill hide what I please and anyone that would argue with such basic principals of freedom is very foolish.

Some might even argue that the technology is safe or it will only be used for this or that but no technology is safe. The world isnt going to be any different in thr near future and corporate interests will happily lobby government into deals. Promises made are easily broken.

There will be legislation (albeit poorly written) and technical controls to hide this info from people without clearance to see it.

But that's the beauty of this - you couldn't forget or overlook a parking fine as they can take payment then and there off your chip. If a guy fails to turn up for court it's no problem to track him down. The more you think about it the better it sounds excepts for the criminals.
