No, not by growing our fledgling games software industry, stupid! Games have been teaching us how to triumph over adversity our whole lives, so let's put those lessons to practical use! Some modest proposals:

    1) Leave the Euro and establish a new currency called credits. No need to print it - everyone will carry credits on their credsticks.
    2) Grant those burdened with onerous mortgage repayment schedules infinite continues.
    3) The unemployed must level-up their skills, through grinding if necessary. Compel them to wander the streets looking for low-paid sidequests, and seeking random encounters with job interviews.
    4) Government must make cuts to balance the budget. Swing the Wii Remote to make cuts (Caution: hold the Wii Remote firmly and fasten the wrist-strap. Ensure you have ample space, so as to avoid collision with vases and prevent your cat from being accidentally punched in the face.)
    5) Add France's President-Elect Francois Hollande to our Friends list. Block Angela Merkel.
    6) Learn from the success of others. Expert advice from overseas can aid our recovery - consult gamefaqs.
    7) Demolish vacant buildings; they may conceal power-ups.
    8) Upgrade our outdated, inadequate broadband infrastructure. Go to the "Infrastructure" heading on the task-bar. Select "Fibre Optic Cable" from the drop-down menu. Return to the World Map and hover the cursor over the area in which you want to put fibre optic cable. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor to lay cable.
    9) Remember, the way back to the bond markets will be challenging - monsters on this level respawn.
    10) If all else fails, hide behind some rocks until our health regenerates.

Other suggestions welcome. We are all in this together (this recession boasts an online multiplayer co-op option.)

Unfortunately, Bethesda produced this particular videogame, and hence everyone burdened with mortgage payments became over-encumbered and couldn't move unless they dropped their possessions. They were unwilling to do so, so just played Call of Duty instead.

After one month a group of Koreans hack the system and commence gold farming. They then start lending this money back to people at a very high interest rate.

I'm sorry; those save files are corrupt. Ask Bertie Ahern about that.

Its been a good game so far but the difficulty gradient has been very unbalanced, and the ending is terrible.

Actually, we're gonna be seeing a new Sim City soon, we should host a national "tournament" and the top 12 get to be government for the next year...

Put loads of salt in the chips so people will pay for water.
(Thanks to a demo of Theme Park I had on the Amiga for that idea)

Go into people's house and smash up their jars looking for money since they won't mind you doing it.

We could host an Unreal Tournament. Have a couple of matches in ghost estates around the country. Anyone know where we can get flak cannons for cheap?

Buy insanely priced DLC from the IMF. Then realise the entire game is broken and you were being ripped off as only the top 1% of players have a chance of winning and go back to Tetris, a Socialist game.

My DLC has halved in price since i got it :(

If you can run a city successfully in Sim City then you're more than qualified in my eyes!!

That game is great but so hard
