Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Canada: IEC 2012 Quota Question

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere - I did look but couldn't find it.

I received my processing email from the IEC on 08/05/2012. I've checked the site and as of 03/05/2012 there are 518 visa left.

Now my application is processing, am I included in the available quota left or does that only decrease as LOIs are given?

    Any help appreciated.

The quota decreases when they scan in the barcodes at the start of the process, then it's increased again if any problems are found in the application.

You have a place, don't worry,

Thanks for the reply, John - that's a massive relief :)

    Hi there ,

Is it too late to get the one year visa for Canada? I plan on submitting the application this week through an agent . Do the places go down when application is received or is it after the two months grant date ?

How long does it usually take to confirm receipt of application ?

    Thanks

I don't know the URL off the top of my head, but if you google IEC Canada it should be the first result. Then there's a little box on the right of the page and the remaining quota is there.

I'm not sure how successful you'll be, only about 3 or 4 weeks ago there was nearly 2000 visas left when suddenly the quota started dropping by hundreds a day, it hasn't moved in a while, that might be due to the fact that they aren't receiving much applications and the quota doesn't really need to be updated just yet, or they just haven't gotten around to updating it, if the latter is true then you might be in trouble because the quota hasn't been updated in nearly 2 weeks, meaning there's a good chance they could be nearly all gone if the quota kept dropping as quickly as it was before.

The quota drops when they receive your application, and usually you receive your notice of receipt from the embassy 4 weeks after you post it, give or take. You should still apply just incase but you might have left it a bit late.

Exactly, apply now, the worst that can happen is they tell you no.

    Hey,

I had to re-submit my application - they recieved it on Thursday May 3rd and I got my initial processing email on Tuesday May 8th so they're getting a lot quicker. It took a month for that the first time I submitted so I'd take a punt and send one off asap - you might just be in luck.

    Thanks for replies ,

The main reason for me not submitting before now , I was waiting 4 months for police clearance . Took my local rural area Guards that long to send out a simple one page sheet .

Wow only 5 days to process hopefully mines that quick , Im using an agent so shouldnt be any delays with my forms .

Toronto looks awesome , Heres hoping !

I can imagine that number going back up as the applicants after the trade show loose interest or just don't bother to pay the submission.

Awesome I got confirmation of receipt of application from IEC this morning !

    Hi,

As of today there's only 29 visas left! We submitted our application by same day courier on the 16th May 2012. It was rejected due to payment being included (this was for our sons study permit),we received it back on the 20'th May at 10:00am. We re-submitted the forms the very same day by DHL same day and it was signed for at the embassy and we have received our initial Notice of receipt email yesterday (25th May) at midday! Amazed how quick they have been I'm assuming they've caught up.

I'm hoping that we have been allocated a visa already and it wont be rejected once the final 29 are fulfilled.....? Very confusing...From what I've seen people seem to think they allocate you one as soon as you receive this email but you cant get a clear idea from their website..

Got our request for payment today. Does anyone know if many people are refused in phase 2 ??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,462 ✭✭✭red menace

We will not accept any applications mailed after Monday May 28th, 2012 (as attested by the postal mark). There is no guarantee that applications received before this date will be approved. Applications are processed on a first come first served basis. Once the quota is full with applications that have been approved, we will stop all processing. You will be notified of the status of your application as soon as possible.

Information regarding the opening of the 2013 International Experience Canada Working Holiday for Irish participants will be posted on this page in the fall of 2012. We thank you for your interest in Canada.

Looks like game over for this year

I got my payment request email yesterday afternoon but my letter requested 105 Euros instead of £90! The 3 people I'm travelling with each got requests for £90 so I'm not sure why mine was stated in Euros.

When the woman at the bank sent the payment, the conversion worked out to £86.19 - now I'm concerned they'll reject me on these grounds. Has anyone else had this during the tail-end of the quota?

The quota is officially at 0 now too.

I've seen on another forum that they sent out an email saying it was sent in error and that you should just pay the £90 not Euros.

I assume you're applying from the UK then? id send the £90 just incase. they're not going to reject you for over paying

This is what with said, although I cant confirm authenticity as it wasn't sent to me personally but thought it may help you!

For everyone who got the request to pay in euros, i just got this email:

    Good morning;
A technical error has occurred in our system and you have received the incorrect letter. Please make arrangements to pay your participation fee in GBP rather than Euros. The participation fee is £90. We are currently rectifying the technical error in our system, information will be posted on our website to notify applicants of the need to make their payment in pounds sterling, and another message will be sent to individual applicants to confirm the requirement. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
    Kind regards,
    The IEC Team
    UK / Ireland

I just paid the 105 Euros but I've not had any email back saying this is incorrect and I've not seen anything on their site regarding this.
I think I'll have to email them ASAP and see what they say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 Nik86

I emailed the IEC and after some back and forth, they've said that I don't need to repay or to make up the £3.81 shortfall from the Euro thing - I just had to email proof of payment and they replied with:
"Thank you for your prompt reply. We will pass your correspondence to the reconciliation team with a special request that your payment be accepted and your file transferred to the Visa Section as soon as possible. You will hopefully hear from our office again in the next few days.
    Kind regards,

    The IEC Team
    UK / Ireland"

Not gonna lie - it's been a stressful day sorting this out but it's a load off my mind knowing that my application won't be refused because of this :)

Oh, and I can confirm the email regarding their 'technical error' that's been copy and pasted in a previous post is authentic - it's the first reply I got when I emailed them initially.

Today is the first day (I think anyway) that the places remaining is down to zero on the IEC website.

It is an awful process this year, I must say. You're spot on though, the paranoia you go through with this and the waiting is awful. I'm sick of stressing over it and trying to second-guess things. I'm still not convinced I'll get a visa this year but my family and friends seem to think I will.

My friend paid her fee on April 2nd or 3rd and she's still waiting on her LOI! She did potentially need a medical initially but then they said they'd reviewd her history and decided she didn't need one aftr all but she's still waiting too!

Fingers crossed for you too though - how many of you are travelling?

There's 5 of us! I'm 35 but my husband is 30. So its he's last attempt! We've got 3 children, 2 of which under 6 and my eldest boy is 7 so we're also applying for a study permit for him too (which you have to) I honestly keep checking our emails every 10 minutes!!! How many of you are going? Where are you looking to live? I'm not aufait with these forums but it's so reassuring to know and talk to like minded people!:)

There are 4 of us - one is 27, two of us are 25 and my cousin is 21. We're going to start in Vancouver and take it from there. Both the lads have their LOIs so it's just me and my other friend waiting.
Where are you looking to go?

I know how you mean about these boards tho - I came across it by chance but I'm really glad I did :)

    Hi

im just trying to figure out if we are too late for the visas to canada, we sent the application reg post on the 16th May and we received confirmation email on the 23rd. they advised they would be in contact in about 2 weeks.
I know since mon 28th May they are all gone but what im trying to figure out is because we got a confirmation email that they have received our application that we are counted for the visa or is it only when you have made the payment you are counted?

    Thanks!

In exactly the same boat and I've been asking the same question... some say yes its from when they scan in the barcode page. Some say no, its when they request payment, as if you dont pay within the correct time parameters (2 weeks is it) you loose your place. Although website says in circumstances where people have paid and they reach their quota you will be refunded, so this too seems to quash this theory too. I just dont know. Let me know if you do find out.:)

Im another one in the same situation as ye , got confirmation email just before the quota was closed . Waiting and hoping for request of payment . No one seems to know , not even my agent .
But Im hopeful and optimistic Ill get a place

Let's be honest, the Canadina reps have done an amazing job this year. The quota is full already. Last year I inquired around August and they still had about 2000 left.

Here are the dire facts though, this Canadian drive has been really pushed in all the eligible countries this year due to the lack of uptake last year, you would have to ask why? Is there really enough work to support everyone heading over considering the economic instability worldwide and the glut of numbers entering next year.

Call me cynical but how many blow all their savings heading over and try to get set up only to discover its not the promised land, are then subsequently forced to return to their homeland. Who benefits from all this, one answer...Canada.

You have passed the first step, the all elusive 2013 visa but now consider your future plans for when you arrive, I think that is critical for a successful year.

The IEC is not intended as a migration vehicle.
it just gets used as a path of least resistance into Canada.
its meant to give people a chance to travel throughout Canada for a year and supplement their holiday with casual work.
who used the visa like that? Almost noone I am willing to bet

as for who benifets who else is supposed to benefit? Canada gets to plug some of the gaps in the labour market and people get a chance to check out a grear cointry for a year

we came over here two years ago when it was still usit running the show and I am on a twp as I will be next year at which poiint we we apply for a PNP.

My advice to anyone coming over would be if you want to stay sort your sh1t out and look at sponsorship and dont rely on a holiday visa to keep you here for a second year.

I think that is solid information, I see so many on here making plans like they are leaving Ireland for a number of years but the sad reality is that the visa is a 1 year WHV.

I think it will be an amazing experience for those going but just keep the 1 year factor in mind and try use it as a stepping stone if you are that way inclined.

Personally I wanted to go to Canada myself at one stage on the WHV, but after my WHV experiences in Australia and NZ I decided that its more important to aim for something more long term that recognises my field of experience and allows me to settle down and fit into a community.

I found that WH Visa's just don't allow this. You're always on the move, never fully settled and at a disadvantage with employers trying to fill skilled long term positions. Heading back to Ireland with no long term plan is always a low point.

    Great news Nik86 :)

What date did you send your applicaition? and was it long before you were requested for payment?

I sent mine before the cut off and received my notice of receipt email that they got my application about 10 Days ago, still waiting on payment email. Hopefully they request it soon and dont just send application back coz Quota full.

They began processing my application on May 8th and requested payment on May 28th. I paid that day and got my application passed on to the Visa Section yesterday which was June 8th.

It says wait up to 6 weeks before getting your LOI from this point but of the other 3 people I'm travelling with, one waited around 7 days, my cousin waited 2 weeks and my other friend had to wait 7 weeks but her application was delayed because they initially requested she take a medical before they issued her LOI.

I'm hoping it won't be too long now and that I do actually get one.

Hope you get one too :)

If you're applying from the UK, make sure you pay £90 and not 105 Euros tho cause there was a technical error that went around regarding that and it took me a whole load of email communication back and forth with them to sort it.

Got payment request on Tuesday, 12th June and paid it yesterday. My fiance is exactly the same.
I'd advise not using aib internet banking as did not get receipt and started to panic so paid it again in branch!
Whats another €105 when i could lose the place instead!

Hope that helps and dont panic im sure you'll get payment request soon

This is brilliant that they are still requesting payment. They must be honouring applications that were sent in before the deadline (28th May) !!!

I doubt they will honour applications just because they got in before the deadline! Once the quota is reached I'm pretty sure that's it. I paid yesterday but still think there is a chance they could be gone before I get LOI. Fingers crossed though :)

    Why wouldnt they ????

I applied just before the deadline when there was 400+ places left as per information on the Canadian embassy website . The numbers went down rapidly from 400 to zero in about two weeks .

Surely lots of visas from the initial 5500 were invalid or not taking up etc. Say at least 200 .
So why or how do you think Canada wont honour visa applications just before the deadline , but yet in on time before there was zero ??
Theres something seriously wrong in their visa department if they cant get there figures correct . How hard is it ?
    Receive Visa application
    Validate
Reduce the figure from original 5500

Theres alot of people waiting anxiously for news on their visa , comments like that hardly help .

What I meant was applications after they had got to zero with valid applications! I am waiting anxiously too but being realistic at the same time. I wasn't trying to make anyone worry. Got passed to second stage today so hopefully I will get one.
