Well done City, almost as dramatic a finish as this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t96cj5LtmLo

Can't help but think they won it in spite of mancini rather than because of him, but now tith the monkey off of their back and the resources behind them, I can see tem dominating for a few years.

Interesting end to the season A) I won €300 having backed Man City to win the league at the start of the season and B) Arthur Matthews of Fr. Ted fame was sitting in front of me in the pub I was watching it in, I should have shouted "F**king hell" in an English accent when the winner went in, missed oportunity.

Anyone know the song sky sports played showing the reel of clips of the season?

All I know is that it had "say my name" in it and it wasn't Destiny's Child. :pac:

Depressed to hell. I'm hoping a season in the Championship will do us a world of good.

Bolton? It was all lost last week unfortunately. Can't stand QPR but have to put my hands up and say fair play to them today.

Just thinking, remember Mancini said Balotelli wouldn't play again this season after the Arsenal game? That's twice this season.

He didn't actually, he said that Balotelli probably wouldn't play again due to suspension over the Song challenge but none came about.

Keep trying to burst our bubble, it ain't happening though :D

Yep. Agree completely. Well, we had a few games they messed up on, but that draw (or lost win) really took it out of our hands

Surely the obvious retort to that is the cost of the PL champions squad and loan players VS Man Utds squad?

Had to endure Villa @ Norwich today, what kept me going was the countdown to FT and with it, the end of several of the team and managements time disgracing Villa into the record books.

Congrats to the City supporters. I'd say the finger nails are gone.

I was joking, but it should be considered, last season he won the league, had a decent cup run and a CL final....this season out of the cups early, out of the CL since Christmas and threw away the league.

City are going to push on from this and if he can't keep up he will only damage his reputation.

This could be his 'Simpsons Series 10' so to speak. :pac:

Than again they might win the league next season and it won't be an issue.

I don't really know, I just saw it on some other forum. It's just to show that the player's prices are comparable and you can't say City bought the title, because it takes something to make a team perform consistently in the league and Mancini brought that to City and it paid off for them today.

Delighted that Arsenal made third in the end, what a season it was for us as well :)

Evra and Kompany are definitely the best bargains from that list.

The pricings on that list are suspect. A lot of those fees were undisclosed. also, what game is that from? It wasn't today or the derby. City appear to have 5 defenders as well.

Shocking alright, Liverpool dodged another dud there, really think he has been found out as the season has gone on and even his boards fan club has died down. Hardly a Jones sig in sight.

Eh, no. Hart would be the best bargain.

19 years old, first season at a big club and you're calling him a dud. Jesus wept, talk about knee jerk.

Look at how many games City won and drew by getting late minute goals and penalties. WOW

That's where the money spent is worth it. If you can bring on Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko, Nasri etc it turns those draws and losses into wins and draws.

You can only start 11 players.

That's probably close enough to what each team would consider their starting 11.

Three of their 6 v United in the 6-1 were in 90th min and injury time. That has to be some sort of record?

No it isn't. No way would city play with 5 defenders. Richards is shoe-horned in there as he cost nothing. The reality is that Silva would be in there and De Jong has fallen out of favour recently. Maybe Nasri instead? Tevez would have to be a starter too.

For United, Rafael for Jones, Evans for Smalling and Welbeck for Hernandez, based on games played this year. Oh, and Vidic when fit. maybe him instead of Rio next year. Ferdinand will play fewer games with Vidic fit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 236 ✭✭Davidson2k9

That would have been an utterly embarrassing defeat to QPR if they lost after having 81% possession, 25 shots and 19 corners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,906 ✭✭✭✭PhlegmyMoses

It's tough to pick, though, based on minutes. Jones has played in a multitude of positions, not necessarily right back. Rafael would be the first choice right back there. Scholes and Carrick are first choice midfielders. Welbeck would surely play more often than Hernandez? And Vida is first name on the team sheet when fit. Fletcher would also get huge game time when fit.

Availability relative to minutes played maybe? Not sure. It is nitpicking as those players play a lot of minutes but it's a squad game. Fergie hasn't played the same team consecutively in a long time. So picking a starting 11 and saying they cost X amount seems pointless.

Edit: I was replying to a post that seems to have gone missing.

Are you really comparing the two here? City have spent the best part of a billion on transfers and wages in the last few years. This wasn’t profit they were spending, it was outside investment and as a club they have made staggering losses. When you look at the price list of the 2 starting 11’s side by side in a vacuum, then yes it looks like Utd have spent just as much as City have. However Utd have run themselves as a business and their transfer fees and wages come from profits earned through club business (winning titles, outgoing player fees, sponsorship, gate receipts etc). Utd invested heavily (but nowhere near City’s extent) in the late 80’s/early 90’s, there’s no denying that. But since then they have operated as a model business, regularly posting record profits season after season. Along with Arsenal they are the best run club in the league.
Outside investment isn’t illegal and I don’t begrudge the investment City have had nor the success they are currently enjoying but to say that the two clubs are just as guilty of buying the league is absolutely ridiculous.

Also, saying Sunderland are a pushover or words to that effect after only getting a point off them this year! Was funny when people (like MON) took it seriously!

Any Man U fans that think City were jammy, only have to look back to the European Cup final of 1999. The last 2 minutes of that should only have ever been shown on Crimeline! :)

That was better than the champions league final in 99 and Michael Thomas's goal combined. Unbelievable!

But was it better than Archie Gemmills goal vs Holland in the 1978 world cup?
