Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Sly people, snakes, and sleeveens.

People (stupid ones) who do say to yea '' how do you even know that ? '' While at the same time they can't even count or spell.

And finally ones who act differently when their around certain people.

Hypocrisy particularly on issues of war and conflict
Like 911 in which 2000 died
In Iraq over 200,000 died but yet 911 is somehow seen as more of a tragedy?
The war in afghanistan is still called a war? How is it not an occupation?
Thats like saying when Britain ruled Ireland or India they were at war. In what way is it still a war?
Bin laden and bush both gave orders knowing large amounts of civilians would be killed but somehow Mr Bush is not the war criminal that Bin Laden was? Opinions are one thing but calculators speak the facts so how can they be debated?

Or the way children starve to death everyday but yet we were choose not to execute serial rapists or offenders of serious crimes even though by spending money keeping just one of these animals alive we condemn hundreds of children to death. I find illogical that we have criminals with violent assault charges with over 80 convictions or more and they are released back into society after costing thousands of tax payers money whilst the opportunity cost is that we have to let children elsewhere in the world starve to death. Where is the logic? Is one guilty Irish rapist worth more than hundreds of African children? If it costs thousands each year per prisoner and those adverts on the telly i belive say that €6 a month can save a childs life, then is that not what is the case around the world?
I wonder is it hypocrisy and illogical mathematics?
    Or just an inconvenient truth?

Loads of people do this. In fact most I would guess. It's usually subconcious. You might even do it yourself. It's not malicious generally - although yes, there are some manipulative, sly social chameleons around too.

There's two ways of looking at it i suppose. People who are quieter when around certain individuals, usual because when they say anything they are made fun of or giving stick of some sort (even if what they say or do is normal). That's understandable though, I'm a bit like that myself. It's easier to keep your mouth shut in these cases. A small minority of the people who i socialize with are @rseholes so I see this a lot.

But then there are c**ts who show off when around certain individuals or even an audience in general. Just to make themselves feel like a clown. These are the ones I ****en hate.

    /rant :)

There's this guy in my college who has absolutely no concept of personal space. He will speak virtually nose to nose to you, showering you with spittle and give you no breathing space. He also talks like a Valley Girl (Like, omigod, like, totally!) and he prounouces Japan as "Jahh-pin". Dear lord, it takes so much self-restraint not to slap him in the face.

Who the hell BRAGS about never reading books? I've never in my life come across this.

I can't be the only one that finds this claim (that people brag about never reading books) a bit odd.

And are you sure that people "brag" about being crap at maths? Are you 100% sure in your heart of hearts that they are, in fact, trying to make themselves look good by stating that they are sh1t at maths? You're SURE?

Quite a few people in my school were like that, mainly because it wasn't "cool" to read or to study.

I distinctly remember a girl in primary school (I'd say about 5th class) coming over to my desk at lunch time and waving her arms in front of the book I was reading and shouting "Eh hellllo?! It's lunch time! LUNCH! You're supposed to use it for having fun! Not reading!! What are you doing?!". Another time I was reading in the yard because the people I usually hung out with were absent/playing something I didn't like and someone kept talking in my ear to try and stop me reading. I know you can't take things that happen in primary school seriously, but that attitude prevailed in secondary too, and moved on to Facebook as The King of Moo pointed out a few posts back ^^.

I've shaken off most of those eejits since I went to college, but I still see people on the Luas getting asked "Why are you reading?!" and getting harrassed by Luas skangers for it!

It's not that common I'll grant you, but I have seen a few cases of it happening.

I think you might be on to something though: I think some people just never grow out of being socialised into thinking books are uncool as a kid.
But with others, I think it stems from a defensiveness as they feel insecure about the fact that they don't read and feel threatened by people who do read, fearing they're smarter folk than themselves, so they slag reading to make themselves look/feel better.

Of course, some people are also just f**king idiots. :D

I always come across this stuff, people who ridicule others over using 'big words' and so on. College students who brag about passing exams without studying or knowing what they're talking about. Etc etc.

It's not that they brag directly about not reading books, they just try and make it seem like they're somehow 'schmad' or going against the grain by not reading etc. Grown adults, this is, by the by. And if you never came across it in secondary school...did you talk to anyone in secondary school? Everyone knows at least one person who always said they hadn't studied for exams then got an A and so on.

It makes psychological sense too: these people clearly feel inadequate about their lack of education/intelligence and are trying to make it appear as if they never wanted to be smart anyway. As if being intelligent made them somehow incapable of partaking in other aspects of life and so on. Positively framing it, basically. It just irritates me how they can say it so openly without feeling ridiculous mid-sentence.

I can't wrap my head around not ever wanting to read a book. If I met someone and I found that out about them it would turn me off quicker than almost anything. It'd kill any desire or attraction I felt stone dead.

Some crowd are trying to overcharge you? Just pay it.

You get a fine for something you didn't do? Just pay it.

You order a pint and the person wants 7 euros for it? Just pay it.

You get served a plate of dogfood at a restaurant? Just pay it.

Get clamped outside your own door? Don't bring out the ****ing angle grinder that's illegal use their appeals process which is just a bin in some poxy office in Dublin that gets emptied every week while your car is held for randsom.

What it comes down to is you as the ordinary person are always wrong and the person trying to get money from you is always right.
