I'd imagine this has been requested in the past surely, but what do people think of having a Boards A&R Group, and/or a Facebook page also?

I'm not sure if there's any politics in getting a Boards Group started, or if it has to be approved by the site Admin first, but would be a nice way of getting more people into the forum.

And as for the facebook, it would be a nice way of keeping in contact...
the last thing I would want to happen is a facebook page would have a negative effect on the forum, and people used it as a replacement for posting on here.

It would be great if it benefited the forum by attracting new Retro lovers,
and could even spark off more meet ups around the country.

Is there enough regulars to warrant either of the 2?

    Thoughts / Ideas / Death Threats? :D

I'd be worried about all the fodder you'd suddenly have for the meme thread :P

This is true! I think maybe stealth accounts are essential! ;)

I'm using a stealth account along side my "normal" family friendly account!

No veccy gimp mask pic on that account hehe!

Personally I'd prefer to see an IRC for arcades and retro.

I barely use Facebook. I simply hate it.

There's an irc groupfor years now. Not sure if it's still used.

There was an IRC chat run by a guy called Ronan|Raven. (I think that was his username) - pretty sure he's also the chap I sold my Neo Geo 1 slot to many moons ago.

Would be worth doing a search for some old posts on it. I'd be interested in getting it up and running too.

    Edit - here's a thread about it http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1202279

Further edit - cool, it works. I'm in there now.

Mibbit is probably the most user friendly way of using IRC online without a client,
you can set up a URL which will automatically put the server and channel in for you.

All that's left is for a user to choose a nickname:

    http://chat.mibbit.com/

Mibbit seems to be bannned on the quakenet server though unfortunately, we should probably try to set up a room on a different server.

Always just stuck to Mirc myself! Really easy to use.

Can someone give this a whirl?

Would be handy for the IRC noobs out there!

You could always use the same server in mIRC.

Seems to work like a charm.

The link is now in my sig.

And if you have an IRC client, this magnet link might automatically add the room to your list:

    irc://irc.mibbit.net/ArcadeRetro

Right there's been a lot of ideas thrown about in the Chat Room today,

About how we could expand the Arcade and Retro concept in various ways.

I.e. More online or offline activities (e.g. online multiplayer with emulators, more beer meet ups around the country)

And how we could try and promote the board to get more numbers.

Maybe a new ideas / suggestions thread could be in order?

Would be great to hear some feedback from moderators also on how we can expand A&R in general.

And in a way that best serves the forum.
I think it would be great if we could integrate things a bit more.

Basically a load of ideas up in the air at the moment!
