Hey guys, just wondering if yee think its a good/bad idea for me to study in the Summer. I haven't done a lot of work in 5th year and if I don't catch up by the start of 6th year, ill be screwed. I don't mean anything major, maybe from 10am to 12pm which is fine because I plan on going gym from 8am to 10am anyway and it won't interfere in my social life. I suppose I should be asking how do I study in the Summer not should I haha. Any opinions are appreciated

Don't. Sixth year is an exhausting year, you'll need a good break going into it. Maybe do a bit the last few weeks of August if you want a head start, but don't do anything in June or July.

I did no work in fifth year and I really regret it. But, I have busted my ass off this year and with a month left I'm in a very health position.

Enjoy the summer, because once you get back to school the Leaving Cert will be on your mind all the time.

You'll have plenty of time once you get back. Don't burn yourself out in the first few months.

    What subjects do you do?

Don't listen to that guy. You should obviously try and go out and socialise as much as you can this summer, but if you have other free time, studying is better than going on facebook or watching TV so go for it.

Get up in the morning, do a few hours and leave it then. Pressure over for the rest of the day.

I don't think it's necessary. Although reading is great and really does help with English aswell as being enjoyable.

^ Agree with that. Summers are for enjoyment, have fun :)

Depends on how well you want to do I suppose.

If you really want to get ahead of the rest, I'd say using the Summer to study would be no harm.

If anybody tells you to not study during summer, avoid them like the plague and DO NOT LISTEN to their advice. Chances are they did not get 625 or high points. Stay ahead of the pack and study over summer when everyday is free. It makes 6th year 20 times easier. The reason people say "you need to rest because 6th year will be exhausting" is simply because they didn't do anything over summer and are under pressure to perform.

    Study, socialise, win.

If you're bored sh*tless on a particular day then why not. But don't prioritise study in the summer over anything else. It's summer and it's for you to enjoy.

It's possible to get high points without rote learning the textbook for every course.

One can get some study done in the summer; it would certainly help in sixth year. I wouldn't prioritise it, though.

I know someone who started studying in the summer and was desperate to get ahead. Then by Christmas he completely burnt out and he's struggling at the moment.

There is more to life then the Leaving Cert.

Have a break, come back and give it your best shot.

If he is struggling then clearly incorrect time management. You do not have to study for 6 hours a day during summer. Simply cover all of the chapters and make sure any parts which you were not confident with in 5th year, settle in your head so you're coming into 6th year with a clean slate. You're not going to be "enjoying summer" by hanging out with friends daily as you'll eventually become bored. Dedicate some time to study.

I studied about an hour or two everyday during summer because I had nothing else to do due to my house being renovated. It helped a lot; I'd recommend doing little and often. The way I see it is that you're going to have to do it anyway, why not make it easier upon yourself? :)

while i commend you on your idea I feel you will never have this much free time ever again in your life, enjoy the summer while you can and best of luck:)

There is plenty of time in 6th year to study. If I were you i would just have the craic during the summer.

Jesus are you crazy? Don't think about school until at least the start of August. The summer is for relaxing. You'll be stressed enough after 9 months of work never mind adding another 3 to that.

You get even more time during summer holidays in university, not to mention sixth year summer.

Thanks for all the advice but I dont think most of yee read my question, I said study between 10am to 12pm so I still have as much time as any one else to relax over the summer as none of my mates will be up at 12pm...Ive decided to do it anyway after realizing how little ive done due to the Summer tests coming up, Thanks everyone
