To be fair, out of all the teams who haven't won the CL in the past 10 years, Chelsea are probably the most deserved of one imo.

Ironically I would have said Bayern are the very team that fit that description.

Why? Because they spent a load of money they deserve a CL medal?

Lost on pens in one final which is always a pretty unlucky way to lose a game not to mind a final. Also unlucky against Liverpool with *that goal* in the semi. Screwed in another semi versus Barca by poor decisions. They've been knocking on the door fairly consistantly, probably more so than any other side who hasn't won one in that time.

I don't get that at all.
They don't deserve to qualify for a tournament they have just won????(if they win)

    Also,the back door???
    Wtf?

2-3 to Chelsea tonite - going to extra time. Really hope its not decided on pens tonite.

Looks like bertrand starts on the left. He will need to do the job of ramires using his pace to get forward. Better than malouda anyway

    ---Mikel---Lampard

    Torres--Mata----Kalou

    Drogba

So assuming the lineup is similar to this who gets left out for Bertrand? I know we slate Kalou a lot but as a winger him and Torres are probably the same value to the team.

This will be the team IMO

    cech
    bos luiz cahill cole

    mikel lamps

    kalou mata bertrand

    drogba

There is no way torres will play on the flank, he won't do the required tracking back against ribery

    .

Through the back door ? - surely a 3rd or 4th place finish is more of a back door than winning the tournament

It is the CHAMPIONS league, after all !

Agreed. Valencia were a massive 39 pts behind Real Madrid in Spain, and went out in the group stage of the CL. Hardly any more deserving than Chelsea, if they win.

I don't think Torres would be that bad on the wing, at least I'd have faith in him to put in a shift.

But Kalou is definitely a safer bet defensively, especially after how bad Torres was against Barca.

You know its been a weird season when you want Kalou to start one of the biggest games in the club's history.

Just went through it there. Even more consistent than I remember.

    03/04- Exited in semi final

04/05- Went out in semi vs Liverpool in controversial enough circumstances

05/06- lost to eventual champs Barca in last 16 round

06/07- lost to Liverpool again in semi on pens

07/08- lost in final on pens

08/09- Lost on away goals in semi to eventual champs Barca. As said earlier, some awful referring decisions against them

09/10- lost in last 16 to eventual champs Inter

Last year- lost in quarters to United.

Worst thing for the game as a spectacle would be Chelsea to employ a similar gameplan as they did against Barca and for Drogba to pull his usual sh*t. Fortunately I reckon they will fancy their chances tonight, and that could be their downfall. Bayern win and one of Luiz, Mikel or Drogba to see red.

If they win it tonight, they deserve to be there next season!

I'd disagree. Bayern have done just as well over the last few years and have got some tough draws, going out in the quarters 3 times to Madrid x2 and Barca once. Add in that they don't have a sugar daddy and they are financially a success off the pitch(€15m - €20m profit projected this season), they are just as, if not more deserving of a CL title over the last 10 years.

Not having a go at Chelsea for having a sugar daddy. I just think Bayern have been competitive in the CL and done it the right way so they are deserving of a winners medal too.

LOL Oatsey, you have Chelsea exiting in Quarters two seasons they made the Semi's. Trying to lie in an effort to make your point seem stronger ay?

Which years were they? I just went back through Wiki. Sorry if I got 1 or 2 wrong. I didn't mean to!

Point still stands, both teams have been competitive over the last 10 years. Well 8 for Chelsea and 9 for Bayern!

You can't directly compare the two clubs with regards to finances. If they were both from the Bundesliga which is run very differently to the EPL then you might have a case. Chelsea are as financially secure as any club in the world if not more so because they have Abramovich. Saying that Bayern have done it in the right way is likely because they are in the Bundesliga who have done it the right way and not necessarily down to Bayern. Also you must have 'forgotten' the State of Bavaria who developed the infrastructure around the Allianz Arena to encourage Bayern to move there. That doesn't come cheap but it won't be in Bayern's accounts so I guess it can be disregarded.

If the state wanted them to move there then of course they are going to have to invest money into the infastructure. You can't ask them to move then tell them they have to pay for it! This was voted for by the people and they were massively in favour of the state providing the funds. Bayern are paying for the stadium over 15 years, 8 years remain. That is on their accounts (AAMS GmbH) and they still made a profit when it was causing losses of 5-10m a year.

Why am I arguing for them, I don't even like them. :P

Yeah but it's still probably €200 million not on their books! My point is you can't compare an EPL club to a Bundesliga club with regards to turning profit because the model is completely different. English football is run in a retarded way, Utd have more debt than every club in Bundesliga combined. I'm just pointing out that while what you said was true, it's not a fair comparison :P

How many "away" fans at the game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,762 ✭✭✭jive

Bertrand as left wing forward? Doubt we'll see him up that far much! I think RDM will be pulling out the Nou Camp tactics tonight :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

Is Terry going to be allowed in the dug out or does he have to watch from the stands?

Teams are in and Bertrand makes his CL debut, on the left wing!
    Huge decision!

Bayern Munich: Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Tymoschuk, Contento, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Robben, Mueller, Ribery, Gomez. Subs: Butt, Van Buyten, Petersen, Olic, Rafinha, Usami, Pranjic.

Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Luiz, Cahill, Cole, Kalou, Mikel, Lampard, Bertrand, Mata, Drogba. Subs: Turnbull, Essien, Romeu, Torres, Malouda, Ferreira, Sturridge.

No recognised CB on the Chelsea bench - jessuss we are up against it!

Think this game rides on the amount of defensive howlers David Luiz makes.

By all accounts, Ferreira was heavily involved in the training this week, maybe in preparation that one of the centre backs may have to go off early. Boswinga would go to centre back and Ferreira to full back!

Chelsea win. This team will not leave the pitch without the trophy heading back to London I don't think. Drogers to cause havoc, his "bulldozzing" will do damage.

Essien has some experience there also, hopefully we don't to call on him though

Considering the way that Chelsea have been written off numerous times on the road to the final, I've no idea how someone could make such a statement.
