Am in France next week for 2 weeks and am concerned that due to heat it will be tough to get in runs especially LSRs. Will try early morning runs but am not an early runner!

Did a 10km race Sat and took approx 1min off my PB so happy with that but took it out of me. 17M long run was tough to start as a result but after a slow paced start it felt good for the middle and end.

    Its amazing the urge to run and how depressed you get when you're laid up with an injury. Gotta look after myself over the next few weeks, hate to get a strain the week before the DCM:eek:

    Hi.
    I have been staying quiet this year because I ended up injured last year and struggled to finish. This year I am following the Marathon Guru Intermediate plan. I only started on July 29th after a few months off. This plan is 6 times a week and has already had 2 x 32K and a 36 K run but it seems to be tapering already as I drop the LSR from 32k last week to 28/24/20K over the next 3 weeks and the 19K midweek run drops to 16/13K in the next few weeks. The last two weeks have been 80Km + which I have found tough. I have found the plan enjoyable and varied with Fartleks, 1K and 2K reps, hills and 800 and 400M reps along with tempo runs so it has not just been mileage so we will see if the 4 hour barrier can be beaten this year
    I checked my distance and it is 533 Km since July 29th

    Following HM on sat, had a rest day on Sun, 7m 'good pace but not quite a tempo' on Mon, 8x800 on Tues and 12m tempo tonight ( a lot of miles at PMP)
    Think I done too much high intensity following the half, so going to push my 20m LSR from Sat into Sun.
    Soccer on Thur night, then 2 days rest ( maybe a 3m recovery run on Fri?).

    Double layered tonight for 1st time in many months.

    Hi guys,

    Haven't been on boards in a while but I need some help.
    I'm following P&D 55 mile plan.
    I did a 10k in Crookstown last week as the Plan said.
    Went very well got a PB 39:16 over the moon :D

    The plan recommends an 8K-15K tune up next Saturday the 29th.
    The only race I can find on Run Ireland is an 8k in Ballyhanuis.
    I'm based in Dublin, anyone know of a race closer to the Pale.
    I'll travel but not more than an hour.

    There's an event in Dublin Port (!) the next day with 5, 10, 15 and 20 mile variants - google "Eco 2 Run" - but you've probably heard of that already and if you run one of the shorter distances you'll be displacing the 27 LSR that P&D requires.

    Me, I plan to do the 20-miler as an LSR/PMP, as a trial for using gels at the same time of day as the DCM. It's a bit of a twist to P&D, but surely not the end of the world. Someone feel free to argue to the contrary...

    I'm far from an expert but I think the lsr on the Sunday after racing/timetrial on Saturday simulates the later stages on the marathon really well.

    Unfortunately my marathon prep has been interrupted these past 2 weeks. My Dad had a severe stroke and was hospitalised and sadly he passed away early this week.

    Obviously running and marathon training is not important when that is going on, and I just had no time for it anyway. Last week I did manage to do short (about 10k) runs on Tues, Wed and Thurs and did 15k on Sunday afternoon. They were more for my sanity and mental well-being than trying to keep up the training schedule. This week I just had no time at all and today was the first time I've go out running. I did 16k.

    I was supposed to do 32k the day after my father had the stroke, so I missed that. I also missed out on doing the half marathon in the Park last Saturday and I had really being looking forward to that.
    I am now going to try and slot back in to the P&D plan. There is a 23k marathon pace run scheduled this weekend. I'm not sure but I think I might put that back a week and try and do the missed 32k run this Sunday morning. If I can get those 2 long runs done and follow the plan from here on in then I should be ok for DCM.

    Really sorry to hear that D Chief. My own Dad passed away a few years back and this played a part in why I took up running(To raise money for Cancer Research)

    Hopefully your training can help you get through this period.

    7.5 miles today. Avg pace 8:56. Easiest run I've had in long time . Only supposed to do 5 today according to plan but added a bit as I missed thursday's run. Felt good all the way through.

    20 mile LSR tomorrow so looking forward to that.

    DChief. So sorry to hear your sad news. Just go easy on yourself - run when you want to but if you don't feel up to it, don't put yourself under pressure. To run your marathon after this will be a great achievement in itself.

    Just wondering why you think 4hrs is beyond you? MacMillan calculator would have you at 3:51:40.

    Even allowing for it being inaccurate there is still some headroom for you I would say.....maybe?

    Obviously your trianing has gone well, hence your HM PB. Sub 4 is within your grasp, you can do it.

    Done my 20 miler this morning, Not sure if I should call it a slow run as I surprised myself with consistent good pacing, even to the end.
    Phoenix park was cold this morning as I set out about 8am, lucky I had my gloves and wore a long sleeved top.

    As I was running the park was a hive of activity with other runners, as I passed them I wondered if any of them were from boards.ie? - just in case I gave a wave to everyone as we passed each other!
    1st 7 miles I tried to keep it to 8:30 per mile, but was struggling as most of my runs l alley were at a higher pace, after 7 I ran at 7:30 (PMP) for a few miles down military road (in the opposite direction!) and onto chesterfield ave, reaching the top at mile 11 I slowed back up and again tried to run at 8:30's.

    Felt great at this stage and remembered my last long run where I had to stop at 12 miles, so it felt good to power on.

    Down the North road and back up Chesterfield ave, felt relaxed and found my pace was 7:45, which surprised me as This week was my biggest mileage week so was feeling 'delicate'. Back up the top and down to the fury Glen, up and a loop back to Farmleigh were the car was.
    20m at average 8:03.

    Feeling strong now, 2 hrs later, no soreness and I normally have a sickly stomach, but not today.

    Hydration on the run was a water belt. 1 with water and 2 with High 5 Zero electrolytes. (3x175mm bottles).
    3 gels. A Gu at 6m, a power bar iso at 11 and a Caffeine Gu at 16.
    Gu are now my preferred gel.

    Overall a great run.

    Ran my 20miles today also, best run so far took it very handy ! there were a fair few very steep and long hills which were challanging but delighted with my performance as I've had a couple of dodgy runs on my previous LSR's so completed it in 3:30min which is a PB for me, and feel fine now, no pains in the legs at all.

    Took 3 gels, 2 Luc sports and 3 Ballygowans.

    This was the loop I took,Rathdrum - Glenealy - Rathnew - N11 (Beehive) - Rathdrum, some great views when you are on the N11, seen a red squirrel also today my first for years.! Sorry no pic.

Am in France next week for 2 weeks and am concerned that due to heat it will be tough to get in runs especially LSRs. Will try early morning runs but am not an early runner!

    Mileage is likely to suffer this coming week, for which I plan to make amends by doing the 20-mile event at Eco2Run in Dublin Port next Sunday, slightly overshooting the LSR that P&D is looking for. Not sure what to do about the Saturday "tune-up race", may have to race myself.

    Good LSR today but was fairly tired after it. Was most happy about my pacing (avg 10.06) as it was fairly even all the way.
