23|Runningking|Run Republic|12|5|53m|656m|Good tough running week. 12m tempo on Wed and 22 on Sat at 8:09ave pace - 7 around PMP - feeling confident

Early mornings and speedwork has me more tired during this "taper" than most of the earlier parts of the programme - and I still have a 19km to run next Sunday. Looking forward to 3-4 quiet days before the DCM - that's about the extent of it!

    Haven't ran since last wednesday.
Physio tonight. The good news was that there's no damage on my thigh. Just very tight and a lot of knots.

The bad news was he used his elbow to loosen my tight thigh to clear the knots.

Nearly had me in tears, but he's top notch and was also our Marathon runner in the London Olympics, so he understands us runners!. Nice guy too, despite the evil elbows........... Back to running on Tuesday.

    Feeling sore and tired myself.

I've picked a really sore calf (not an injured bovine) from yesterday's run. Can feel it pulling while walking. Like someone is grabbing it. Not stressing too much, hopefully it'll clear in a day or two.

Got that myself a couple of weeks ago and got a massage, your man said me calf was just too tight and he worked it out, all grand after 2 days, hope it's the same for you.

5m run today. 1st one in a week.

During the 1st two miles I had runners knee, ITB, shin splints, groin strain, in growing toe nails, flu and a kidney infection.

The last 3 miles were great, once I warmed the muscles and gave my self a few metaphorical slaps!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,606 ✭✭✭RedRunner

Did 4 miles tonight. Wasn't feeling great earlier today. Not sure if it was down to tiredness or just this cold I've been trying to shake for last few weeks unsuccessfully. Went out for run anyway and was feeling ok during and after it.

I've booked myself into the Doctor tomorrow night to get myself checked as the cold I mentioned has got into my chest and I'm afraid it may turn into a chest infection. Its been like that a week or so now but hasn't shifted so now I'm taking no chances and seeing the doc to make sure it doesnt get any worse. I'm not usually one for going to the Doctor for something like this. Only for DCM I wouldn't be bothering! Maybe its the "madness" but I'm not going to risk being sick next week due to lack of action this week:)

......I've booked myself into the Doctor tomorrow night to get myself checked as the cold I mentioned has got into my chest and I'm afraid it may turn into a chest infection....

Back from Docs....low grade infection. 7 day course of antibiotics..glad I went now..nipped it in the bud before it has a chance to get worse...otherwise fit and well.

Missed my run tonight because of it but not too bothered considering the downpour outside (in Dublin)

It's a dirty night alright. On the plus side, it made it easy to run fast to get home as soon as possible

7 slow miles tonight, managed to avoid the rain believe it or not.

For sure...so long as you don't end up on your ear because of wet leaves!

I have developed a cold from running in the rain on Monday evening. I hope nobody else here makes that mistake - it's not worth the risk!

There is no risk. The idea that you catch a cold from being out in the cold and/or the rain, or from going out with wet hair, is an old wives tale. You catch a cold by coming in contact with a virus.

I ran in the rain this afternoon and enjoyed it. I did the P&D 3x1600 session in the rain, and through the puddles, and I was really happy with it.

It was a slightly dodgier proposition after dark, but not a bad session in a masochistic kind of way. Weather was horrendous for a couple of weeks before last year's DCM too - including at least one drowning. Could be worse I suppose...

Going down Merrion Road was like running on wet carpet. I got a full body shower too courtesy of a passing motorist and a large puddle. Thankfully I was already fully soaked by then :D

Getting worried now about missing my 3.15 target. Been to physio twice this week due to sore glute. Missing a few of last weeks and this weeks training runs. Will see how Sundays Lsr goes. It really can be described as a pain in the @ss!

So what mileage should I be looking at doing this weekend, I've done 4 x 20 miles for the past four weekends, so was thinking of doing a 13miler or something this sunday, taper madness has kicked in yo!

So said the pharmacist to me today - a bit of a revelation TBH! So much for health awareness!

I am going to do 19km on Sunday. My plan is to run part of the second half of the DCM course. I'm going to start around KCR, or maybe Terenure, and run the DCM course to Fosters Avenue, maybe go back and do Roebuck Rd a second time, then loop back to my start point. The idea is to familiarise myself with that part of the course and to run it when I'm not so wrecked, to hopefully take away some of the fear of those hills at Milltown and Roebuck. I remember last year going along Roebuck Rd and thinking I was near the end of it, but it just seemed to go on and on. I hope to have a good look at it this Sunday morning.

I think the idea is that if you're cold and your body is using much of its resources to keep you warm, then you're defences aren't quite what they could be and you are more susceptible to catching a cold. If you're running in the rain, you're going to be generating a lot of heat so it shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you get dry shortly after stopping running.

I feel your pain! I've missed most of last week and only done a few slow miles this week to keep ticking over.
Frustrating that I can go through so many miles and sessions injury free, but then pick something up on the 1st day of taper??
I really want to do an interval session to get the legs fired up again, but cant risk it.

Physio last Monday seemed to help, but still not 100%.
Off to sports massage this morning - hopefully she can work wonders!

    Not asking for medical advice.

I've the same issue. I've been recommended to do quad stretches, hip flexing, core and bridge exercises. I'll be seeing them next week.

What are you doing to resolve the issue? Is seeing the physio have any effect or just stretching and rest?

Same situation here, starting to pull my hair out now!

went for a sports massage this morning in Castleknock.

She immediately identified the problem was my back, and set about loosening up my extremley tight back.
Worked on my hamstrings and then on other leg muscles.

Feel tender from her 'going at me' - but the 'dead' feeling in my leg is gone. Going back to her on Tuesday for a final session, but feeling good right now.
Planning a small recovery run on Sat (3-4miles) and then my 12m on Sunday.

thats good news Running king. I had dryneedling in my hip on Monday and went for a test run last night 5.6 on threadmill and it was ok, but I can still feel the bruising (internally) from the treatment but not from the injury, which is good.

I just did my session for the week, 2m warm up, 2 x 2@ MP with 4min rec, 2m cool down and thankfully not a peep out of it.(8.53 total, so the two runs this week was more than my total for last week:eek:)

The plan is for 4m easy tomorrow and 14 for sunday...looking good for me reaching the 1000m during the marathon!!!:D

Hopefully we'll all get sorted in the next few days....isn't that the reason we have a Taper!!!
