RSA notification of points on license for wrong offence

I received a notice from the RSA entitled "Notification of Endorsement of Penalty Points", it says its in respect of an alleged offence "Driving a vehicle while holding a mobile phone".

I was pulled over but not for that offence, it was for breaking a red light, I paid the fine and filled out the police forms.

Is it possible they have it listed incorrectly? I know the penalty is the same for both offences but its on record as being for the wrong offence.

is it important to do something about it or just assume they just wrote down the wrong offence and ignore it? Fine is already paid.

I'd be inclined to get onto them and tell them that you were never sent a fine for such an offence and to check their records. They may remove the points and forget to put the correct ones on.

You have nothing to lose really.

There's also a small chance that if you are caught driving with a mobile in future it will be shown as your second such offence. Makes no difference points-wise, but it could make a difference if you end up in court.

Ok thanks, I didn't even think of second offence etc.... I'll call them and sort it out.
