Extend mortgage term or not?

Basically, we are down one wage in the house, and that means that we are at 40% of what we used to have. Have been able to keep the mortgage paid the past year, but there is little left each month for unforeseen expenses etc..... chances of another job in the house are very slim...... so, what to do? we have 12 years left…
