Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pity Klopp is doing so well in Germany. Unai Emery would have been a good punt but he's not available.

AVB might be worth trying. I think FSG would back him for a 4/5 year project as he wouldn't be expected to win the league first time out.

Haven't the owners hinted at wanting to 'push forward' 'look ahead' etc bringing back Rafa might be seen as a backwards, retrograde move.

Anyway Liverpool simply don't have the money, the CL football or the clout to get a big name like Rijkkard, Van Gaal etc

and Mourinho? Gaurdiols? - no chance at all

But they and more notably, ****wits in our fanbase will expect him to get CL football at the first time of asking.

I reckon we won't. And we'll have a "Are >insert name< and Liverpool done?" thread by October & then be having a repeat of this thread next summer.

Since he whored himself around the likes of football focus in an attempt to land the Chelsea job, I'd say his chances are greatly diminished.

I voted atari jaguar for the laugh :pac:

But seriously, the pool of managers is small. I think it would be a risk for Liverpool to bring in Lambert or Rodgers. One season however good(unless they won the fcuking thing) in the PL isnt enough to warrant getting the job.

Also Rafa is a wrong choice too. Pool need to look forward not look to the past again.

I reckon it will be Martinez, villas-boas or one of the promising young manages from Europe(i dont know em. Bilbao/dortmund) if they can get them that is

A good percentage of the fans wanted Kenny back too and look where that ended. Look at Newcastle. There was much resistance from the fans to Alan Pardew taking over and he's gone on to do a fantastic job. Simply giving the fans who they want is not the answer to anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,844 ✭✭✭carlcon

Can't imagine there are many managers out there who would take Liverpool to worse than 8th, which is how I'd look at it if it was my team. Anyone half-competent should be able to give Carroll a kick up the arse, keep Suarez playing well, and pick out 2 or 3 decent players for average prices. A 6th place finish next season will be progress, then aim for 4th/5th the following season. There's just no logical possibility that they're going to overtake Spurs, Arsenal, or Chelsea in the space of one summer. Focus on beating Everton and Newcastle, and not letting the likes of Sunderland and Fulham punch above their weight and steal Euro spots.

They don't need another British "make them work hard and fill them with pride" manager. They need another foreigner who can bring in a few decent players from abroad. As has been highlighted both on this forum and in Kenny's purchasing history, there are not many bargains to be made at home.

    *Edit*

Just saw Martinez is favourite. I really hope not. He's a wonderful guy and seemingly a great manager - he'd be SLAUGHTERED if he doesn't perform miracles at Anfield, a-la Roy H., and I don't want to see that happen to him.

Off that list Mourinho would be by far and away the best candidate but one thing he isn't is stupid, and for that reason he won't go near the Liverpool job.

Others mentioned in the thread such as Martinez, Rodgers and Lambert would jump at the chance and if I was a Liverpool fan I'd be disappointed with those sort of names, but there's no CL football and questions over how much the owners are going to give to spend after Kenny blew over £100m last summer.

It'll be interesting to see what happens but I suspect the appointment will be underwhelming.

They need an overhaul from the underage levels up. This is why I would pick someone who has an ideology which can stand the test of time.
Why are they no longer producing the likes of Fowler, Owen, Carragher and Gerrard?
Recent crop: Shelvey, Spearing, Flanagan and Kelly(who is decent) are not of that calibre.

I think Liverpool will go for big name this time.

Someone proven that they can cope.

This is one of the biggest jobs in football for one of the biggest teams in the world.

A young manager like AVB would probably be good for that, but only if the entire system is overhauled and he's not going to fear for his job in 3 months time.

Someone needs to be given a 3-4 year contract that means a 3-4 year contract. The recent crop you've mentioned could be seen as dead wood by the next manager, and he'll bring up his own youngsters (or bring them in from afar), then when he's gone, it happens again, and repeat ad infinitum. That leaves the club always "growing", but never "grown".

Both Chelsea and Liverpool have a chance now to make big statements for their futures this summer. I guess we'll see how it goes.

    No it's not.

The top tier managers wouldn't touch off the job with a barge poll. They haven't finished higher than 6th for 3 years now and were 37 points off top spot this season.

They are no longer the draw for world class managers or players that they once were, that is a fact.

Theyll most likely hire Martinez, Rodgers etc.

I can see AVB getting it. We give him an extremly raw feal by sacking him so quickly and he has a lot to prove to people in England. If hes given the backing he can really turn things around for Liverpool.

Hell even Di Matteo might not be a bad option. If he doesnt win us the Champs League he migt aswell start bookig an extended summer holiday as I cant see Roman A. keeping him on.

The only managers pool have a realistic chance of getting that I would want if I were in charge would be these 3:

    Rafa

Martinez and Rodgers are more 'flavour of the month' although i dislike the term, Klopp, Biesla, Guardiola are heads in the sky and MON? You've got to be kidding.
