Just wondering...any of our local waterholes doing
anything special for June to lure the punters back in?

Or are WE all going to stay at home and enjoy IT even more?!?!

They're always whinging about lack of punters.

So, grab the baton and do something.

The only reason i'm sort of encouraging them is i fancy
getting out and supporting The Boys In Green somewhere with a
    bit of atmosphere!

    :P

In Bray get ye down to Hollands - not a regular customer here but I do remember that they once changed channel at my request - will probably watch most of it at home, but if pushed by mates to come together outside this will be the place.

    Are you serious?

How about offering half price pints for the duration
    of the 90 minutes?

How about free food for punters in before the kickoff and
staying well after the final whistle?

How about pre sold tickets where you watch all three games
in the same pub and get a few pints free?

    Free raffles?!?!

How about a tempory half decent surround sound system in the lounge
where the punters can get absorbed in the action to go with
    the big screeen tv?

I could go on but why am i even bothering saying this?!?!

Because i want to GET OUT and feel as if the pubs are doing
something for US rather than US doing something for THEM!

Staying at home with a crate and a few lads is looking all the
    more likely.

    RIP Wicklow Town pubs!!!

Did you say any of this to the hostelries? Or just happy to rant and rave online about it?

Or is it not up to you, it's up to the pubs?

Why not get "a few lads" down the pub and make yourself the craic?

Or do you want everything on a plate handed to you?

    ...keyboard warriors...

You sound angry with the world. Everything OK?

Just was suggesting a few things for the pubs to do to make
the punters a bit more welcome...

    ;)

No fan of publicans but why should they give half price pints to punters?

Half price piints, free food....you do realise that all costs money.

Also, AFAIK drink price promotions are illegal.

Funny the attitude of some people to certain business sectors.

Yet you'll never of people going into Tesco and demanding free food for just walking into the place.

I've been in lots of pubs that did free food (cocktail sausages/chicken wings/chips etc) during football matches. It helps get the punters in.
Happy hours are illegal now, ie time restricted price drops but pubs like Jim Doyles in Bray do promotions on match days, eg 3 pints for €11 or a meal and a pint for €10.

    The place is sorted.

    Ahem, The Bridge...ahem...

    :)

They've certainly stood up to the plate.

Not neccessarily. I work in a small business and people seem to take the attitude you can chuck whatever you want to them for free, take money off a bill and should give them all credit no matter what and as murpho says, they have different attitudes whenever they go somewhere like a supermarket.

I find it funny how people keep saying pubs should lower the price of pints. With the amount of pubs actually closing down, do you actually think they'd rather shut the doors for good rather than take a cut on the massive profits they're supposedly making?

Anyway, I'll be watching the games in Lynskey's in Arklow. They give some finger food at half time and I'll be hoping for some sort of atmosphere similiar as seen on tv during Italia '90 etc.

Maybe i'm missing something as usual... :P

BUT supermarkets SEEM to do good deals.

Pubs don't. Never mind. EC2012 is sorted.

    "7 days and counting...."

Martello in Bray usually do a Burger & Pint for a Tenner when big Matches are on

I've heard rumours from an apparently reliable source that the Bridge won't be showing any of the matches this summer.

I'd imagine that Whistlers could be good seeing as they do have the sports bar set up

No I don't but have had a business in the past in the service sector and it always amazed my how people feel they should get something for nothing in the line of business I was in but not in other businesses.

Are McDonald's giving away free bugers for Euro 2012?

Are Lifestyle Sports giving out free jerseys?

Yes you are missing something ... supermarkets have deep pockets, and can utilize that well known instrument, the "lost leader", to sell stuff at below cost if it suits them and make up the difference on other lines. Pubs don't really have that amount of freedom.

Only Sunday night 7.45 will tell the tale...

Good luck The BoysInGreen and whatever the result,
we all know you've done us proud.

Might see SOME of you around Wicklow town celebrating
the win?!?! After THE BOOZERS shut, of course!

    ;):D

Well, I like it. There had been a few undesirables frequenting the place as they moved from other pubs but they've been moved on now since the place is a bit more established and has it's own "crowd".
They're also showing matches upstairs now too with alot more seats up there.

Saw this in the pub in Newcastle today.
Match 1. Free drink for everyone if Keane scores first goal.
Match 2. Free drink if we get a draw.
Match 3. Free drink if we qualify for next stage.

Fair play to them (and I hope they have to give out a lot of drink).:D
