That's a cool system, but when I meant half DIN the other way round, like 10cm across, 6cm high kinda job.

ahh, trying to install it in that little space on the beamer beside the factory radio ?

Nope, I have the nav screen there. Was thinking of fitting something under the wood tray beside the gearstick where the ashtray hides. :)

If you think about all the features you have on your smartphone and the size of it there's no reason for the size of the head units anymore.
You could have a device that DIN size on the front but only depth of a typical phone and you have all that space behind for whatever!

There was a tape deck in my polo when I got it, so I picked up a lidl radio, it had a cd player, sd slot, USB port, aux jack and A2DP. It was cheap too. The CD player no longer works. friend of mines CD got stick in there I never used it so I don't care., but everything else works perfect, especially the A2DP which is my favourite thing, play everything through my iPhone, sorted.

As mentioned above, A2DP bluetooth is the way to go as it allows full control of the device from the steering wheel controls as well as voice control of the device, and visual display - caller ID, current song, etc. Which means no need to ever take it out of your pocket.

I have A2DP and it's a bitch for battery life on the phone. The car also has AUX and USB which will read a USB stick or an iPod, and gives track lists on the display and lets you use steering wheel controls. Funnily enough, it won't control an iPhone.

The simple solution is one of these:

16GB for 10 quid. Fill it with tunes and away you go.
