The CRN ILS is still in place, as Weston's owner(s) have an interest in reopening Galway, as the "jewel in the crown" of their "empire"...."sure aren't they great people altogether". Whether that comes to pass will depend on their FF connections in the Council allowing it to happen.

Anyone know if this fine gentleman is a related to Westons new owners, could make life easier if he is.

Cant say I know anything about the bust up, will look to find out about it though.

Is this the final nail in the coffin for Weston???

    Flyincowboy,

You seem to have a good grasp of the situation at Weston, but here's my opinion....
You will likely never see either of the ex-Galway fire vehicles. They were bought at about a sixth of their original purchase price, so flipping is highly likely.
The CRN ILS is still in place, as Weston's owner(s) have an interest in reopening Galway, as the "jewel in the crown" of their "empire"...."sure aren't they great people altogether". Whether that comes to pass will depend on their FF connections in the Council allowing it to happen. Apart from that, removing the ILS from CRN, and having it recommissioned at WT would be prohibitively expensive...(they don't do "expensive")...planning permission, obstacle surveys, ILS Approach designers fees, Dub/Bal objections, local objections...sure what would you need it for with such restricted opening hours?...not a chance it would happen!
More likely something GNSS or EGNOS, which is catching on fast, and is relatively cheap for airport operators to implement, there are still design fees to pay, either way don't hold your breath...

    http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Navigation/The_present_-_EGNOS/What_is_EGNOS

"With 250 or so acres of prime land situated on the N4 and only 10 mins away from the M50, 1km of frontage, increasing house demand and prices in the dublin area and the owners having a history of building houses ...... Could it be all an elaborate plan to run the place into the ground, tell the council it's not viable as a commercial airport (remember both dublin and Kildare councils view it as pain in the back side) and apply for re-zoning in a couple of years when house prices sky rocket again. Maybe build a public access walk way along the reservoir as a little sweetener."

You are bang on the money there I think...

Any truth in the rhumour about a major blow-up between the owner's "Financial Controller" and a certain larger than life Weston character, over his enforced loss of business this week? Would love to have seen that...though certainly everyone in the building would have heard it for themselves...

    QDM.

Conneely is a fairly common name in Galway. The mayor is FG by the way. Doubt if there is connection.

But there is interest in reopening Galway as GA airport. I know of one 'interested party' who wants to operate out of Galway and it seems he has the ear of some politicians. If it comes off it could rival Weston as a GA field.

As for Weston the new owners seem to be making pigs ear of it. Hope they have nothing to do with Galway.

I believe the restaurant operator is the latest party to tell the new Weston Owners where to stick it. Was down there the other day and apparently the restaurant operator has not renewed it's lease, but I believe someone else is due to take over it.

I was in the restaurant for lunch today and I'm afraid to say that, as a regular customer, I can see it's gone downhill fast. Very long waiting times and poor quality food at the end of it. Maybe it's just temporary.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,107 ✭✭✭ytareh

That's disappointing news .The 'new' restaurant always had slow service but now poor quality food also ? Pity as the grub was great there last year was thinking of going again .

I heard an ad for Weston Restaurant on Radio Nova this morning so they're not spending on advertising for no reason.

Has been a busy visitor up north too; into Aldergrove and Eglinton with the past month.

Plywood business seems to be booming!

No feedback on restaurant here , just aeroplane pics :-) so called round meself.Place has been smartened up inside .Food grand , service grand.Well worth a trip .Kids special at 5.95 for main course , squash and an ice cone best value around .

BUT in over an hour there didnt see a single 'flight'.A red helicopter was flying just above the ground up and down one of the 'side' 'runways' , that was it .Not a single Cessna take off or landing .Weather was squally but surely not so bad as to keep them grounded .

Iolar (Aer Lingus historic first airliner)was in the hangar .
