Times have changed, if there are jobs to be created and a boost to the local economy I doubt the politicians are going to be hugely inclined to side with a couple of angry residents.

And as for that one particular resident who was responsible for flying those kites, he/she should have been locked up for that stunt.

True and also he was brought to court from a pilot in a Cessna (not giving the reg away) hit them on landing.

Holy sh*t!! Some asshole actually flew a kite on finals? Were any charges brought against him? My flight bag would be going out the window if he tried that stunt with me! Risking lives because he decided to buy a house beside an airfield! Idiot!

I heard from a fairly reliable source that they are planning a basic light system and I really hope it's true. The new owner is keen to get more biz jet traffic but as most biz jets fly in for company meetings etc. they need to be able to get the biz jets out when meetings are finished which is impossible at any time after 1630 in the winter months without lighting... Meaning F all biz jet traffic outside the summer months.

Torches? think of the batteries you'd have to buy, you only need one torch and a good few high vis jackets

One of the biggest objecters to Weston was a female TD representing the Celbridge area .

The objectors should think long and hard ...... if Weston wasn't there we would have had miles of faceless housing estates there now.

Interestingly , when speaking to local people , they truly believe the ' hype ' for example they are convinced that FR were going to make a base there , that all the development done was without PP etc.

When I try to tell them that FR moving into Weston is about as likely as me winning the EuroMillions two weeks running ( and I don't buy tkts ) they are totally unmovable.

I wonder what this TD's colleagues in the Dail will think when they find out she's objecting to the creation of numerous jobs in the area.

Sure when the new owner took over a few months ago, local TD and residents wanted a meeting with Donnelys to put their bull$hit forward, but i dont think the meeting ever happened.

Im all for Weston expansion, making it bigger and better. Residents chose to live there, way way after the airfield was built. So why moaning now??

For night ops that will attract business people you would need basic lights but also some sort of enhanced instrument landing system. A full blown ILS would be costly, not to mention the serious objections that would go in from the locals. The current VOR procedures are workable to a point but only really good for flustering and scaring the sh*te out of solo students in the circuit. They require you to be visual somewhere around 700-800 feet if memory serves, which may or may not happen a lot of days in the winter.

Putting in PAPIs would also cause an issue in my opinion. Weston currently has the run of the mill 3 degree glideslope for the instrument approaches and the PAPIs would no doubt be on this...if you put PAPIs in people will fly the PAPIs(even VFR) and that will bring them a lot lower than the 500 feet on the QNH over Weston Park given that it is about 0.5nm from the touchdown zone at Weston......NIMBYs advance!

I would suspect that it's not just the economy of local area but Dublin in general which needs Weston. Dublin Airport does not want GA so anyone who might want to do business in Dublin and use non airline air transport need Weston.

Centralising the runway would probably help with this instead of the current configuration it has.
