    Hi everyone,

I got a puppy at the end of Feb & hes flying! Hes so good with the bathroom & very playful. He is learning his tricks well too.

I think he might be a bit lonely during the day thats why I'm thinking of getting another one...

My fella is a Jack Russell & hes 4.5 months old.

What do ye think? Would I need to get another Jack Russell? Really want to have another small dog not a big one.

what is the best age to get another one, that he wont mind.

    any feedback would be great!

With such a young pup, at this stage if you are going to introduce a 2nd dog an adult dog would be better.

Its hard work training a pup so if you wanted to introduce another pup, maybe wait 18 months/2 years until the first one is trained.

If you do a search on this forum for 'second dog' there are alot of useful threads.

At ~6 months he'l be hitting puberty so I would at least wait until he's past that as you'l probably encounter a few training issues you don't want him to pass onto a new pup.

Most of the dogs that end up in pounds and rehoming centres are between 6 and 18 months. Like already mentioned, your dog has not yet hit his adolescent stage or gone through his second 'fear' period. You still have a lot of work to put in when it comes to training and socialising your little JRT, I'd give him your time and attention until he's that bit older and you're sure having gone through this period once you'll be willing and able to go through it again - not that I'm suggesting you won't, but the statistics show that this is the stage when many people decide their cute puppy isn't so cute anymore!

I'd be waiting til your dog is at least a year old, or going with an adult dog. FYI I challenge you to find a pound or rescue in Ireland that doesn't have at least one JRT in there, if you're going to get another .....
