Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So is this just a match ratings thread now?

I can't wait for the Germany v Holland game on Wednesday. Hopefully Germany score early and force Holland to unleash all attacking options.

Nope, still an 'Everything Euro 2012' thread.

Here's that "Sharon Curley" flag at the Ireland match. The worst flag of all time. What dope got the colours mixed up. Not that hard to get it right.

It's in keeping with the Roddy Doyle school of banner making anyway.

Surely they can't deny the affects of global warming now that the Ivory Coast is in Europe

UEFA hanve launched a probe into alleged racist chanting at two games.

Czech defender claims he heard racist chanting directed at himself during their game with Russia while a Spanish fans group has openly admitted that sections of the Spanish support was making Racial chant's directed at Mario Balotelli.

Neither country has made an official complaint, Parendelli has even said he didn't hear anything and Balotelli hasn't said anything himself but none-the less UEFA are using independently provided information to investigate the claims.

Could be pretty bad news for Spain, seems like it's true of a Fans Group went and publicly admitted there was racists abuse thrown by Spanish supporters at Balo.

The Czech equivalent of RTE are trolling their own viewers by showing the full match of the Euro 2004 defeat to Greece right before the match this evening.

That would be a bit like RTE showing Ireland's Italia '90 match v. Italy in full next Monday. People would probably tune in.

Yeah the Czechs were great in that tournament so I don't really see the problem :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,261 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

The problem is Czechs are still somewhat bitter about as they feel they were the better team and we all know what people think about that particular Greek team.

For us, it'd be more akin to showing the Cyprus game before a game with them.

Yep, we love them and think their performances at Euro 2004 was one of the greatest in the history of international tournament football.

In fairness tho Greece played six games against "the better team" in that tournament. Czech's just picked the wrong time to assemble an awesome array of attacking talent.

Been like that for an hour or so now it seems. One of them is marching down the streets and the other is objecting. Riot police out in uniform.

Just found a video of the riots. Looks nasty enough in there.

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2012/0613/324869-russia-hit-with-suspended-points-deduction/

Russia hit with a suspended 6 point deduction for Euro 2016 qualification. Following fan violence after their first game. (Would last night's violence then activate the deduction?)

    This is supposedly hard line.

If UEFA were serious they'd have thrown them out of the tournament.

Yet this is the country they decided to let host the 2018 World Cup well played Fifa.

Love how it is worked out that 14 of 16 teams can either go through, or go out, on the final group day. Shame we are one of the lonely two. :(

Anyway, my match ratings for the 2nd bit of the group stage are:

    Greece v Czech 2.5
    Poland v Russia 3.5
    Denmark v Portugal 3.5
    Germany v Holland 4
    Italy v Croatia 3
    Spain v Ireland 3.5
    Ukraine v France 3
    England v Sweden 4

Best player so far: Schweinsteiger ('immense' a few nights ago)
Worst player so far: Whelan (really has been exposed at the tourney)

It is bizarre that not one single team has secured qualification yet. I think that's a first since I've been watching tournaments anyway.

Has there ever been a tournament without a 0-0 draw? Looks like this one will go all the way without any scoreless games, great stuff!

1954 World Cup springs to mind. Check out the scores in those games. Look more like baseball than football.

Brazil 0 - 0 England in 1958 was the first 0 0 draw in a World Cup Finals.

Ronaldo, Casilas, Beckenbauer, Platini, Gullit ...... Keane

(I guess that pretty much explains our tournament :pac: )

Match ratings for the final group stage.

Only caught the highlights of Russia-Greece and Germany-Denmark, so I won't rate them.

    Poland v Czech 3/5
    Portugal v Holland 4.5/5
    Spain v Croatia 3/5
    Italy v Ireland 3.5/5
    England v Ukraine 3.5/5
    Sweden v France 4/5

Ibrahimovic goal last night, has to be the best goal so far!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭steelcityblues

    Funny thing I noticed tonight.

The same Euro 96 semi final match ups, could happen this year:

Czech Rep vs France and England v Germany.

Probably all four won't get through the QF stage, but still interesting.
