Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The wife's birthday is next week and i've got her a nice camera. She's been after one for ages. Where could i bring her that would be nice to take photograph's?. Anywhere within an hour of Kildare considered. She likes nature, wild animals and old stuff(castles, stately homes). Any help appreciated.

Depending on where you are exctly, Ardgillan Castle (in Balbriggan, I believe) would be about an hour away, and is a nice enough place for a few hours.

Glendalough is nice place to spend a few hours too , and you have nice views of the mountains nearby

Since you're in Kildare, the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens would be a good option.

Wicklow would be closest for any of them.

Either of the canals. Pollardstown Fen. Ballynafagh Lake.

Woods in many locations - Rathangan, Kilkea, Monasterevin, Donadea, etc etc.

    Castletown House & Grounds, Celbridge.

A lot of the towns would have general photographic interest.

On a rainy day, your local garden centre for some nice close ups of flora.

Yes go to the gardens, landscape locations etc but take portraits of family, parents, grandparents, children , etc. The National Stud is very good and what about Curragh races. Horses, people, style, fashion, it's all there and a good day out.

Definitely the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens! Apart from the horses and the beautiful Japanese Gardens you have St. Fiachras's Garden were you can find a small waterfall, a lake, the Limestone Gateways and the Monastic Cells. There's also in the village St. Brigid's Cathedral with their gravestones a round tower and some nice details made of carved wood.
    You can't go wrong :)

My go to list which i've still to make serious inroads into; (originally scraped off multiple posts here on boards).

    Dublin
    • Dun Laoghaire - (Incl Peoples Park)
    • Botanic Gardens
    • The deer in the Pheonix park
    • Howth (Howth is absolutely fantastic if the sun is shining. Go up to the Hurdy Gurdy museum on Abbey Street and walk to the railings - you have the whole of Howth below you.)
    • Balbriggan
    • UCD
    • Trinity
    • Sandymount - Off the beaten track in Sandymount, and up towards Poolbeg, is always a great spot / Sandymount seafront area is nice too. Also, it is possible to take a walk to the Lighthouse there.
    • Grand Canal Place
    • Anywhere west of Ranelagh Bridge makes good photos
    • Dalkey/Killiney are always worth a look. Dalkey town is nice, and then a nice walk up Killiney hill, to have a nice view out over the bay.
    • Dun Laoghaire and Sandycove are beautiful too, all the way along the coast - the pier in Dun Laoghaire, the 40ft for the people swimming, etc
    • Car park of the digital hub on thomas street. loads of old industrial stuff, and some weird contraptions (permission for going in?)
    • Clontarf - Bull Wall is great.
    • Connolly Station is fab also.
    • Docklands Including the IFSC at night (some nicely lit buildings)
    • City Hall - must lie on back in centre of room(!)

    Dublin - Temple Bar:
    Markets (Saturday Opening)
    • Temple bar food market, 10am - 4:30pm, Meeting House Square.
    • Temple bar book market, 11am - 6:00pm, Temple Bar Square.
    • Designer Mart at Cow's Lane, 10am - 5:00pm, The outdoor Mart is located off Lord Edward Street.
    • Map of Temple Bar - http://www.templebar.ie/home.php?nav=38
    • National Photographic Archive Exhibitions, Meeting House Square.

    Wicklow:
    • Mount Usher Gardens (Ashford) is worth a look (payment to enter)
    • Powersourt gardens up from Eniskerry village
    • Sally Gap
    • Brittas Bay (sandy beach)
    • Glendalough

    Meath:
    • Trim Castle and stroll by the Boyne
    • Bru na Boinne visitor centre
    • Lough Crew
    • Slane
    • Toll / Suspension Bridge on M1 (nicely lit at night if night photography is their thing)
    • Bective Abbey (between Trim and Navan)
    • A trip through the Boyne valley

2nd this. Also, if you have a dog, bring it along, as plenty of people walk their dogs on the grounds of Castletown House.

Also, Carton House (Maynooth) is nice, but don't go walking around the golf course, and keep an eye out for balls heading your direction :P

Thanks for all the tips guys. The national stud/Japanese gardens are only over the road. I think that's the place if its a nice day.
