Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know a 13 year old called Rianna. She was obviously born before the raise to fame of the pop star with the same name but people still assume she was named after her.

She actually got to meet Rihanna after a gig here which I thought was cool.

Walking past Herbert Park near the RDS one day I heard a D4 Mum call after her 5(ish) year son in that drawny accent that made her sound like she was going to break down in tears.

"Please Pateo, don't walk too near the edge of the footpath".

In any other part of the country an Irish boy called pateo would get the unmerciful piss ripped out of him, but I guess in the heart of Dublin 4 the kid probably blends in with the rest.

Nah, most "dicks" I know call themselves Richie. I suppose what might be a strange name here might be normal enough in America and vice versa though.

The wife used to work with 2 people, married to each other, whose names (coincidentally, I hasten to add, they were not related!) both happened to be McCarthy. They had a child and the mother insisted that its surname be McCarthy-McCarthy - now that's a real feminist!!

No idea why, but "Connor" grates with me - every time I hear a parent call out for their "Connor", I think of it as a description, not a name. I now call all annoying kids "connors". The sooner eveyone starts doing the same, the better.

A friend of mine had a baby in the Rotunda hospital back in the 80's. There was a young mother in the bed opposite her who had called her new twins "JR and Sue Ellen".
