Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Living in a mostly protestant town there are a lot of archaic sounding ones like Clive, Geoffrey and Harold. Its weird knowing a 20 year old called Clive

    From QI:

A Russian family would never call their son "Power Station" or "Industrialisation" because they are girls' names. (In Russian, they are "Электростанция" and "Индустриализация" respectively.) Boys' names include "Combine harvester" and "23 February".

I was processing some application forms a few years ago and discovered Dorothy Tinman was living on our shores.

Must have been at some stage after 'Return to Oz' that those two got hitched :)

Most normal Russians were laughing at those idiots who named their kids these names.

Just like we laugh at 'Moon Unit' and 'Harper Seven'.

Russians have crackpot celebrities too ;)

A friend of mine had a little brother who used to tie bits of glass to his clothes and hang from the ceiling. I believe his name was Sean.

That absolute dogsh!te program on Channel 4 the other night about the girl who pretended to be a lad to get stuck into her mates featured a (fictional) kid called Cona (Conor, obviously) McCormak.

Remember thinking how retarded that kind of anglicised spelling of Irish names was. Didn't think it was that prevalent.

I went to school with two sisters called Daffodil and Tulip.

Also a friend of mine wanted to call one of her sons Daniel. Nothing wrong in that you may think, except her surname was Glin. His name would have been Dan Glin (dangling!). When I told her, she soon had other ideas.
