Man Utd losing 1-6 at home to City
    Chelsea losing 3-5 to Arsenal
    Newcastle's season
    Evra - Suarez row
Chelseas journey in the Champs League
Man Utds collapse in the Champs League
    Wigans end of season run
Utd blowing an 8 point lead with 6 games to go
The end of season drama between Man City & Man Utd
Messi's goalscoring records, Ronaldos equally impressive record

    Been a great season!

    What do ye think?

    Anfield cat.

    Ewood chicken too :pac:

Muamba's recovery, and coming back to Bolton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 774 ✭✭✭stealinhorses

Yeah, it's been a great season. I would add to that list Arsenal's recovery and final 3rd place considering how Man Utd put 8 past them at the start of the season. The 0-0 draw in Moscow and Juventus invincibles on the list as well.

Been a remarkable season indeed - can't remember one quite like it!

Every weekend there was nearly a big talking point, and that's excluding the title race.

Anfield Cat and Blackburn Chicken were absolutely outstanding too, well done to them.. :pac:

Have enjoyed this season hugely, had a bit of everything. Shame Wolves went down, but otherwise it's been a great example of why football is still fantastic.

    - United bottling it.
    - Aguero's goal to win the title in the last seconds of the game.
    - RVP

No one mentioned the fact that arsenal were 17th in october and finished 3rd losing there two bets players last summer and another of quality player(Wilshere) out for the whole season?

Thought that put a bit of a damper on the season tbh..

What strikes me about this season is how so many fans had a roller coaster ride.

Liverpool - crap in the league, but won a cup and got to a final.

Chelsea - crap in the league...so many losses...but win the champions league.

Man Utd - crap in the league, crap in the cups...but looked for a while like they had the league sewn up. They were the biggest losers this season but there were some uplifting moments.

Man city - crap in cups, coasting in the league, threw away league, handed it back, threw it away again, salvaged it at the death.

Arsenal - horrid start to season followed by miraculous end. Hammered by man utd, then the Chelsea and spurs games.

Spurs - what a start...were talked about as possible league contenders...then the horrid finish.

So many fans had reasons to cheer and swear this season.

pats beat rovers 5-1 too.....mad season.

Seriously United had 89 points??? wtf crap in the league. Would like to know what united fans think of their blistering start being driven by Anderson and Cleverley.......2 seriously good players that are now possibly broken.

    You can't forget Europe either:

Mourinho finally pips (peps?) Guardiola to La Liga. Ronaldo vs Messi.

Villareal relegated in the same year they played Champions League football.

    Levante!

As someone stated already, Juve's invincibles. Plus the end of an era for the likes of Del Piero, Inzaghi etc.

PSG's return to prominence, only to be pipped by tiny Montpellier.

The continuing rise of the likes of Dortmund and Bilbao as pure footballing teams.

Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League!

And that's all just off the top of my head, if you were to get more obscure (and I'm sure someone will), there's likely more.

It was the type of season that reminded you why you love football. Brilliant stuff.

I'm a man utd fan. By our standards I felt we had a poor season. I was obviously being a little facetious as well.

They blew a big lead, but United have had several worse seasons in Fergie's time.

For me the Anderson experiment is over. just too inconsistent and injury prone. I'dgive cleverly 2 more seasons and reassess it then

He was savage in every game this season before him cleverley got injured.

Possibly no way back for them but United looked a decent team with those 2 in the middle. feck that defending lark we just score more than you.

Well said leggo - some great moments across europe this season

Montpellier and PSG going to last day in France.

It shows how nuts this season has been when the thread is 2 pages in, and the Tevez saga hasn't even been mentioned yet.

Or even things like Blackburn's ineptness, Villa's almost relegation and both Swansea and Norwich exceeding expectations impressively.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 774 ✭✭✭stealinhorses

Few more crazy things off the top of my head:

Balotelli's penalty in the last minute vs Spurs, so vital in the end
Arsenal beating Spurs 5-2 from 2-0 down
Norwich upsetting Arsenal 3-3 when they needed a victory so bad
    Gary Speed's suicide
Piermario Morosini dying a few days after the Muamba incident
    Petrov's leukemia
The highlight reel goals scored by Cisse since coming to Newcastle
Gary Neville turning out to be a class pundit on Sky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,731 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

Greatest season I can remember - restored my faith in watching televised football - yes some of the players make more in a week than I earn in a few years - but what a season - still think City's dramatics last week were the highlight - but well done chelsea

My anti-united friends when United were way ahead in the league.
"Man this has been the worst premier league ever, United are such poor champions. No one deserves to win it"

When City won the title 4 weeks later.
"OMG that was the best league evaaarrr. It was brilliant all the way through it. City totally deserved it!!1!!!"

This night, and this thread in particular, has made me wax all passionate and reminiscent. So I wrote up a blog on the topic. I'd re-post here but it's basically a stretched out, sarcastic version of my above post, so I don't want to clog up the thread again. People can feel free to click the link below and read if they're interested:

The end of an Era in Italy with Nesta, Inzaghi, ADP, Seedorf, Gattuso and Di Vaio all moving on.

Cassano having a stroke and then heart surgery and making it back before the end of the season and onto the plane to Poland/Ukraine.

Napoli's two sides (epic one game, abysmal the next)

Milan's insane injury problems (13 players out at one stage ).

    Juve's unbeaten league win.

How unbelievably ****e Fiorentina and Genoa have been.

    Udinese getting CL football, again.

    Inter and Roma imploding.

Parma's season, I expected them to be cannon fodder.

German Denis's form, after being told he wasn't wanted by Udinese and loaned to Atalanta he scored 16 goals and was one of the top scorers in Serie A until Christmas.

Ibrahimovic having the most prolific season in his career the same season he doesn't win the league for the first time in nine seasons.

The thing that will stick with me most from this season though is this.

    AsyeO5WCIAABPn4.jpg

39 years old, playing his 300th game for Milan, his 468th game in Serie A, and scoring his 126th goal for Milan, his 288th career club goal, to win his Final game for the club it meant something to him.

Nobody in the world loves or cares about their job more than Pippo Inzaghi.

It was similar to the one that Ronaldinho scored a few years ago. Not as good as the one from tonight but still a very special goal.

United up there always brings something to the table , without them it would be unexciting - unfortunatly my team, everton, will never win league without serious investment, and thats not going to happen anytime soon ! - nothing against United , great club , but I along with many others have been blue for the past few weeks !

Not to forget the 20,000th PL goal was scored by Marc Albrighton.

Liverpool getting keepers sent of in two straight games, 3rd keeper saves resultant spot kick.

Michael Vorm keeping 13 clean sheets, Grant Holt being one of the top english goalscorers.

Paul Scholes coming out of retirement.

Apoel making the quarter finals of the Champions League was incredible.

The whole goings on at Blackburn. Protests at every other game.

Dortmund tearing sh*t up in Germany.

The tremendously entertaining adventures of Mario Balotelli.

Lyon putting 7 past Zagreb to earn a spot in the knockout phase of the Champions League.

    The magnetic goalposts at Anfield!

RVP playing 38 league games and in the process not getting injured even once. That is some improvment.

All 3 promoted teams doing well enough to survive for another season. And probably for the first time in many years promoted teams being breath of fresh air with the way they approached the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,862 ✭✭✭✭inforfun

    The Dutch league.

With about 5 or 6 games to go there were 4 points between first and 6th.
Ajax having a run of 14 wins in a row.

Feyenoord finishing in 2nd, CL qualification after finishing 10th last season.
Players voted away the manager who was replaced by Ronald Koeman
Losing their 3 best players and replacing them with 2 players on loan.
Bakkal, on loan from PSV scoring the first goal in each of the last 3 matches

And then John Guidetti, 19 years old on loan from City.

Season cut short because of injury but managed to score 20 in 22
3 consecutive hat tricks at home vs Ajax, Twente and Vitesse. First player to do so in Holland since the 60's.

The season was awesome, for all manner of incompetence.

United - blew a lead. Incompetently.

City - blew a lead, after spending trillions. Incompetence.

Arsenal - consistent incompetence. Someone else was more incompetent than them though...

    Spurs - epic incompetence

Liverpool - borught incompetence to new, hithero unknown heights

Newcastle: Genuine over achievers. Deserve kudos.

Chelsea: Incompetence (AVB), somehow bumbled to a CL win.

So, its been entertaining, in that all the incompetence has led to an awful lot of drama. Not much quality however.

Also, The Evra/Suarez incident was a stain on football.

Can anyone remember a year in which the top scorer didn't win the league in any of the big championships? (slightly cheating with Nené for PSG, perhaps)
