Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It'll be kinda weird not seeing him play in the Premier League. Has come up with some huge goals and moments for Chelsea over the last few years.

Every player has blotches on their copy books, some more then others.

Its safe to say without Drogba we wouldnt have won half the trophies we did. Romans best ever signing? He deserves to be mentioned as one of the best, if not THE best signing of the Roman revolution.

Dragged us through matches when we really shouldnt have been in them with how we played.

Would you say he's the best player to play for ye in the PL era? Or Lampard perhaps.

Either way he was and always will be a Chelsea great. Frustrating to watch at times but the guy was a beast and a central figure in Chelsea's title and European cup winning campaigns (and FA cups). Wish him all the best

If I was in his position, I'd do the same. Won it all with Chelsea and now, at 34, he can go to China and pick up £200,000+ (or more if some reports are to be believed) a week for a year or two. Nice.

"I wanted to put an end to all the speculation and confirm that I am leaving Chelsea," he told the club's website. "It has been a very difficult decision for me to make and I am very proud of what we have achieved but the time is right for a new challenge for me.
"As a team we have accomplished so much and have won every single trophy possible. Saturday was a very special moment for everyone at the club and for all the fans, and I am very proud to have played my part in bringing many trophies to this club, which has been my home for the last eight years.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the club especially [owner] Roman [Abramovich] and my team-mates, many of whom have become very close friends and will be my friends for life. I would also like to say a very special thank you to the Chelsea fans who have shown me so much love and support over the years.
"I wish the club all the best and continued success for the future - you will always be in my heart."

    So long Chelesa Legend!

one of the best quotes I've seen about Drogba, from Jamie Carragher...
As a defender, if a player scores against me, I usually think there is something I could've done.

Even if it's Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney. I'll identify the flaw that let them in. The only different ones are Drogba & Henry.

A brilliant striker and one of the best players in the Premier League of the last decade but I think he also tarnished what people will remember him for by being the worse culprit in the league when it came to feigning injury.

A big loss for Chelsea - he will be remembered fondly by the fans. Was hoping he would stay one more year.

I'm glad he's gone now, impossible to top leaving in this way. Both the club and he now gets a fresh start. Will never be the same without Drogba and I doubt we'll have a player that strikes such fear into defences for a long time.

One of the real oldschool Chelsea signings

Oldschool? I assume you mean the old school of 8 years ago when they paid £24m for him, back then footballers were real men. Unlike these new school players who dive and earn ridiculous wages.

Good player, but lets put things into perspective.

That header on Saturday summed him up, raw power. Absolute Chelsea legend, will be very hard to replace.

I find it hard to have any respect for him because of his diving etc, i actually despise him on the pitch.

If you feel that way about players that dive you must despise a few players from your own club then?

I imagine that its difficult supporting Liverpool. Long term underachievers and all that baggage and stuff.

Nevertheless its nice to hear from you and know you care. :)

Melion is far from speaking for all Liverpool fans. There are a couple in this thread who have very nice things to say about Drogba.

I love Drogba, hes an absolute legend, so what if he dives, loads of players do, he just gets stick because hes a big guy. Hes only doing what he can get away with.

Fans criticising him for diving should have a look at their own team before making judgements.

Drogba's performances against Bayern Munich teams are the stand out moments for me.
In the 2005 1/4 finals Lucio and Kovac were completely dominated by him, particularly at stamford bridge.
Even in that game Drogba was infuriating to watch. At one stage it looked like he was going to come off "injured". Then back on he comes to knock the two lads around like they were a pair of U16s centre backs.
And that goal in the final really was a thing of beauty. The power and direction on the header was brilliant.
Glad to see he is gone but sorry to see the back of him at the same time!

Another thing we'll miss is his defending of set pieces.

He was a beast in the air and was usually the first man in our box that got his head to balls coming in.

Its a quality that we're going to miss next season when we play certain teams.

Was listening to Morning Ireland going to work during the week and they were talking about Drogba and his work. Now, I have no time for English Football, I'm a LOI man and a European Football man only but Drogbas achievements have to be recognised. In fact, the presenter noted that he appeared on Channel 4 news last week and gave a great interview about the Ivory Coast. She actually wondered with his concerns what he talked to people like Terry and Lampard about.

Anyway heres an older interview from Channel 4 news.

For me, though the ultimate footballer who tried to improve peoples lives was Socrates who was also an incredible football player.
