Rate this spec sheet for new build

Hi guys building a new pc soon (Gaming and 3d Renedering , Cad etc ) this is my spec so far what do you think is it ok or should I change anything?? i know some stuff is overkill (PSU) but i want it to be expandable/upgradeable in the future

CASE:

STORAGE:

will be reuseing my 6870 for a few weeks till i get a Sapphire 7950 OC

Couple of questions
Would I be better off with an Nvidia car over an AMD ??
An is the Sabertooth a good option for the motherboard or is there a better choice available ??

Unless you're planning on running four 7950s, you don't need a 1KW PSU. A good 7/750W will easily cover two.

Also, I know it's a nice case, but is the Cosmos 2 really worth €250? You could buy a 256GB SSD with that, and have some left over.

I know the PSU is overkill but I heard you won't ever need more than x a few years ago and now my PSU is useless because it's too small , so il hold on to it for now , i agree its way overkill at the moment ,
As for the case im only paying 100 for it a friend of a friend has one an wants rid , said its too big :P

So what do u reckon of motherboard ??

Motherboard is fine, though if it were me, I'd go with an ASRock, because of their track record with Z68.

GPUs are getting more an more efficient now. You're just going to end up spending more money on the PSU in the long run, considering most of the time your computer won't be drawing more than 100W, efficiency at lower load levels is more important.

Also, if you're going for a 1KW unit, you don't need platinum. All platinum units are still hideously expensive, so you're just wasting even more money. Get an Gold unit if you really, really want something that big, or a 700W platinum one.

I wouldn't bother with Scan, to be honest. Everyone here uses Hardwareversand.de. As long as you can pay by bank transfer, they're quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else.

To be honest, the rig is a bit unbalanced... Unless you're getting the Cosmos 2 for like €100, it's not worth it, really. If you really, really like it, fair enough, but it's a lot to be spending on a case for a mid-range gaming rig.

Then there's the 3770K. Are you going to be doing a lot of 3D rendering and design? Even for applications that use Hyperthreading, there's not a lot of benefit - only about 20% or so, and you're paying an extra €100 for it.

I upgraded the SSD, and stuck in a 650W Gold PSU. This will power anything up to two GTX 690s, and have room left over. That's over four times the power of the 7950 you're planning on putting in there. Good enough for ya?

I also added a more moderate 1TB drive. It's the fastest around that's not 10,000RPM. Velociraptors are just crazy-expensive, and pretty useless now-a-days, to be honest.

I changed the motherboard and cooler to better ones. ASRock are more reliable, and the Noctua will be better than the Be Quiet cooler.

Unless you need to be booting from virtual hard drives, and a couple of other bits an pieces, you really don't need ultimate. If you don't ever have to backup to network storage, than you won't need Pro either.

Regaurding PSU i just make a rough estimate using the below to see what i need or may need in the future.

AGP Video Card 30W - 50W PCI Express Video 50W - 150W one power connector, 150W - 300W two power connector
Average PCI Card 5W - 10W
DVD/CD 20W - 30W
Hard Drive 15W - 30W
Case/CPU Fans 3W (ea.)
Motherboard (w/o CPU or RAM) 50W - 150W
RAM 15W per stick of RAM
Processor 80W - 140W
OP your parts are good but really not much value price wise.

Swap Asus Z77 Sabertooth for ASRock Z77 Extreme4 has all you will need.

Swap Coolermaster Cosmos 2 for Fractal Design Define R3 (x-large case are available too) good looking silent expandable.

Swap 1TB Western Digital Velociraptor for WD 2TB Sata 6Gb/s. With a SSD's holding your OS and apps a Velociraptor is not going to give you a greater boost why not double your storage.

I had the 7950 in there as he explicitly asked for it, does CAD and the such care whether the card is AMD or nVidia?

one question lads i have asked this on a few forums and they all said to avoid asrock motherboards and stick with ASUS or gigabyte?? now im confused

as for the case the Coolermaster cosmos 2 , i dont get why you say its not a good choice as i said im one of my first posts im getting it for €100 personally i would have thought id be nuts not to go for it for that money ???

and ya i see your last post there serephucus , i was just about to ask would i be better off going Nvidia over AMD ???

If you're getting the Cosmos for €100, then it's an absolute steal, never mind.

No, definitely don't go Gigabyte. Their X58 boards are great, but their P67, Z68, and probably Z77 boards had lots of issues. ASUS not so much, but still some ASRock are excellent though. A lot of North Americans don't like them because they're seen as "budget ASUS", which isn't exactly untrue. Fact is though, they're great boards. Most of the builds here have ASRock boards in them, and no-one has reported problems.

As for the GPU, for CAD and the like, you'd probably be better off with NVIDIA. If it is supported by whatever applications you're using, it's more likely to work on an NVIDIA part - CUDA and all.

explains a lot , as for the CAD / rendering i know nothing about it :rolleyes:, it would be the mrs that does that , she wants to be able to do this stuff at home instead of staying in work till all hours , might have a look at nvidia , can you recommend a good nvidia card for similar money to the 7950 ??:)

GTX 670. By far the best card out at the moment. Amazing value for money. Beats the 7970 in most benchmarks too.

OMG I just picked up the case coolermaster cosmos 2 . from my friends mate , I can see why he thought its too big , this thing it insanely huge !!!!! Huge isn't a huge enough word for it , in the box it nearly reaches the handle on the door of the house
