unfortunately with the exception of campaign stars they do not come cheap. even the recent issue medals are relatively expensive. perhaps because collecting militaria is popular in Britain?

I was looking at a site and some medals had the name and number erased. is there any reason why this would have been done?

There are a few reasions this is done. Sometimes a Soldier who had lost a medal might get a replacement medal and have the name erased then possibly have it renamed.

Another more sinister reasion is some collectors like filling broken groups with unnamed medals. Some people have figured out unnamed medals sometimes sell for quite a bit of money so they buy cheap medals to corps such as RE, RA and ASC then erase the name and sell them on as unnamed medals. It is a disgusting practice.

    Hope this helps
